I lay on the floor gasping for air, my heart was racing much too fast with the smell of my blood in the air. Ashton stood above me smiling that same cruel smile he had before. Blood dripped from his pointed fangs as he watched my life spill from my neck. There was so much pain, it felt like I was being roasted alive and sliced to pieces with a dull knife. The blood pouring from my neck ran out like water from a faucet, I felt it pooling around my scalp and soaking my shirt. Time was running out and there was nothing I could do but wait to die. As the venom licked through my veins, I thought of Jacob and my family. Jacob kissing me, Jacob adoring me, Jacob loving meâŠso much love and it wasnât enough to bring me back to him. My insides were burning but my body was cold, it wasnât long now. I brought up a memory of each of my family, remembering how much they loved me and how much they would miss me. I felt my useless tears pooling on either side of my face as my life slipped away with the sun. My heart was now thumping too fast, it really wasnât long now. I closed my eyes, tired of looking at Ashtonâs red eyes smiling mockingly at me and just thought of how much I loved Jacob and how I would miss him so much. âRenesmee, Renesmee, wake up!â I heard Jacob whisper and suddenly felt my body shake. It was too late; I knew it then because my eyes wouldnât open. âRenesmee, itâs okay, donât cry, Iâm here,â Jacob whispered urgently. My eyes fluttered open as I heard a new sound. I looked around and saw that it was light now, maybe around two âoh clock. My hands gripped Jacobâs shirt so tight, I thought it would rip. The sound that had awaked me was my loud sobbing. I took in the room, Jacob holding me and realized it was all a dream. âJacob!â I sobbed and flung my arms around Jacobâs neck. Jacob patted my back and stroked my hair and comforted me. After I calmed down, Jacob asked me what was wrong. âI just had a really bad dream,â I whispered, trying to keep the shaking out. âShow me,â Jacob urged gently. I swallowed hard and slowly raised my hand to Jacobâs face. Jacob watched in silence as my breathing started to pick up again as I relived the nightmare. âShh, itâs okay Nessie, thatâs never going to happen, shh,â Jacob whispered as he pulled me closer. I nodded numbly and tried to control my breathing. Jacob would never let that happen to me and I knew that butâŠit couldâve happenedâŠso easily. After I woke up again Jacob urged me to go down and eat. We walked down stairs hand in hand and stopped when Luna appeared at the bottom of the stair case. Jacob quickly pushed me behind him and rushed to Lunaâs face. âDonât you understand a fucking thing? She needs time!â Jacob hissed at Luna. Luna flinched and quietly said âI know I know itâs justâŠI needed to see that she was okay...â Jacob sighed and mumbled âI donât know Luna, maybe you shouldnât be hereâŠâ and motioned for the door. Luna sighed but started to turn. âWait,â I called out. Luna and Jacob froze. I walked down to Jacob and took his hand in mine. âLuna, this wasnât your fault, everything that happenedâŠhappened but I donât hate you, you know that right?â I asked and placed my hand on her shoulder. Luna turned to face me with a devastated expression. âLuna, donât cry, itâs not your fault,â I whispered and cupped her cheek. Luna gasped like she was trying not to sob and looked at me with sad eyes. âBut it was my brother who tried to kill you, it was my brother I ended up protecting, and Iâm so sorry Renesmee.â I forced a smile and said âNothing happened to me, Iâm still alive and Luna heâs family, so donât beat yourself up for something you had no control over okay?â Luna slowly nodded and dabbed her eye like there had been a tear. âStill friends?â Luna asked with a half hopeful grin. I pulled her into me and squeezed her tight with one arm. âOf course Luna, of course,â I whispered into her hair as she sobbed tearless sobs. Luna needed me so I sent Jacob to go get some groceries from the store so I could make dinner for the pack and Grandpa Charlie. Luna kept apologizing and I kept telling her that I was gonna smack her if she apologized again and finally I did. Luna was sitting next to me in the love seat and opened her mouth to say sorry for the billionth time when my hand flew out and smacked her. I didnât smack her hard and it wouldnât have hurt either way but she was shocked. She froze with a shocked expression probably thinking âWhy did she just smack me and why is she smiling?â I was smiling because she needed to realize that I was serious. âSorry Luna,â I said and pulled her into my arms. âItâs not your faultâŠnow stop or ill do it again,â I whispered, trying not to laugh. Luna busted out laughing and I joined in. Luna kissed my hair and said âIâm sorry but not for before, for being such a mope.â I hugged her tight and said âitâs okay.â Later when Jacob came back, I had to make two batches of spaghetti and meat balls, one for the pack and grandpa Charlie and one just for Jacob. Jacob swallowed it down without seeming to take a breath; I mustâve really worried him. Luna left before Mom and Dad got home, she thought they still might need sometime, even though I tried to tell her that it was okay for her to stay. Mom and Dad came home just as Jacob and I were on our way out the door with the food. âHow do you feel Renesmee?â Dad asked lightly, taking a seat. I wrapped myself in Jacobâs arm and laid my head on his chest. âJust fine,â I said and looked up with a smile when Jacob kissed my hair. Dad nodded but frowned at our affection. Mom grinned and winked at me; we both were on the same track. I laughed out loud and pulled Jacob to the door and said âGet used to it Dad,â and heard Dad chuckle as I closed the door. âDo you wanna run?â I asked Jacob. Jacob thought for a moment and finally said âNah, you look tired, letâs just drive, well, Iâll drive,â and winked at me. I smiled and took the container of food out of Jacobâs hand and walked over to the garage and opened it. Jacob opened my door for me and then got in and then the house disappeared. It was pleasantly quite on the way to La Push, our hands intertwined, thinking of nothing really, well I wasnât. âI wonât let anything ever happen to you again,â Jacob said out of the blue. âWhat?â I asked totally confused and turned to Jacob. Jacob stared ahead and for a moment said nothing. Finally he spoke. âThe other dayâŠwhenâŠ.when he,â Jacob stopped
