Chapter 6
We stayed with the wolves and became proud members of the pack. We hunted with them and even was there when the Alpha female gave birth to her litter of cubs.
I ran into the forest for a jog. I was so stressed out, I kept trying to convince Crispin to have baby vampires but he keeps saying when things calm down we will. I growled just remembering the argument.
I shook my black wolf head and leaped over the fallen tree in my path. That’s when I ran across the child.
I stopped short and turned. The little boy whimpered and tried to shrink back. I let my tongue come out of my mouth and I crouched down. I slowly crawled forward.
“Pl…please don’t hurt me.” The little boy whimpered in his shirt. I whined and crawled up to him. I licked his face and curled up behind him trying to comfort him. I thought for a little while, meantime the little boy curled up to my warmth.
I shifted. “It’s okay I won’t hurt you. What’s your name?” I asked him gently. He looked back startled.
“My name… is Azhdeha. Who are you?” He asked me relaxing better with my human form.
I smiled slightly. “My name’s Kristen. What are you doing out here alone?” I said very worriedly eyeing him closely.
The boy suddenly shivered and a tear dripped out of his eye. “I was out here with my dad walking in the woods to where my mother is buried. But something happened and he told me to run as fast as I could. I ran and didn’t turn back. Now I don’t know where my dad is and I’m lost.” He said miserable. I put my arms around him and pulled him close.
I was rocked him for a little while when I heard a howl. I looked down at him, “That’s my Alpha. I’ve been in the wolf shape and I joined a pack. I’m gonna call back to him and have him come here but don’t worry I will protect you.” I told him smoothing down his hair.
I pulled away slightly and shifted back. When I was done I tipped my muzzle to the sky and called back to Bone; telling him to come where I am, that I had found something.
I padded back to where Azhdeha was and curled around him. He snuggled up close to me and lightly dozed for a while. When a branch snapped he jumped and shrank into me.
Bone walked out and I stood up tipping my muzzle in greeting. “What’s this?” He asked me looking Azhdeha over dangerously.
I growled at him in warning, also in a possessive way. “This is Azhdeha. I found him here half dead. His mother is dead and his dad is missing but I think he might have died too. Bone, can I please take care of him? He’s attached himself to me and he’s just human.” I said looking longingly at him. The look in my eyes said that I would protect this child til’ death.
“I’m fine with it because you’re doing it for a good cause but you might want to talk about it with your mate.” Bone said walking over to me. “Now let me smell him and acquaintance myself with him.” He said walking past me up to Azhdeha.
I nodded and walked behind Azhdeha and rubbed up against him. Bone sniffed him up and down and gave him a hello lick on the cheek. Azhdeha laughed and Bone smiled a wolfy grin. “I like him he has spunk.” Bone said looking over at me.
I laughed and looked at Azhdeha myself. “Bone I’m gonna shift for a minute and explain things to him and I’m giving him a nickname cuz’ his name is hard to say.” I said shifting again.
“Azhdeha, I’m giving you a nickname for that name of yours is hard. From now on I and everyone who can talk to you will call you Twig. Now for rest of our business, this is Bone the alpha male of the pack. He said he welcomes you and that you are welcome to stay with me and my mate. My mate; Crispin might have a problem with you but I swear to you no one will hurt you, I will not let them.” I said to him. He looked slightly scared and I walked over to him and gave him a kiss on the head. “Now come on. I’m gonna shift again and when I do I want you to climb on my back then I’m going to take you to where our dens are and you can rest.” I said next then backed away to shift again.
I looked at him and gave him a bark to let him know to come. Twig came over and quickly climbed on me. When he was done I looked over at Bone. He nodded and sprang into the trees. I sprang after him but started off slowly to give Twig a chance to get comfortable with the way I ran.
When he was done shifting I ran even faster by the speed I was running we would be at the dens in a minute. When I got close I slowed and let him off. I lightly grabbed his hand in my teeth and pulled. He walked forward and I walked next to him.
We stepped through the last of the trees and were right in front of the cave. The cave had holes in it so we could see were everything was. I walked in and led him over to where I had moss and comfortable things to lay in laid out. I padded on it and circled then laid down. When I was done I looked up at Twig.
He looked slightly uncomfortable so I gave a low bark. I dropped my muzzle to the space next to me and lifting it again. Twig got the idea and laid down next to me. I curled my body around his and let him warm up and doze.
Eventually, after Twig fell asleep, I allowed myself to slip into sleep as well. There was a savage growling and my eyes snapped open. Crispin stood standing only a few inches away from Twig with his teeth bared. By the time I came fully awake Twig woke up himself.
When he saw Crispin his eyes widened and he whimpered shrinking back into my warmth. I looked at Crispin with anger in my eyes and snarled savagely at Crispin. I got up and padded away from Twig he tried to follow me but I looked at him and growled softly while shaking my head.
I led Crispin out of the caves and into the forest. I stopped walking when we were out of eyeshot of the caves. “What’s your problem now?” I asked him sarcastically. I looked him over and my heart raced in longing.
“Who is that and why is he sleeping next to you?” Crispin demanded.
I looked amazed at him. “That’s Twig. I found him in the woods, he has nobody his mother is dead and I think his father is too. I talked to Bone about letting him stay for a while and me taking care of him.” I told him quietly I looked down at the ground trying to diffuse my anger.
“And when were you going to tell me this?” Crispin asked getting madder every second we talked.
“I was going to get some sleep, I did change shape like about five times and I was exasted, but I was going to talk to you about it right when I woke up. Now you better not hurt him cuz’ I will not let you touch a hair on his head until I trust you won’t try to kill him.” I said sitting and looking him right in the eyes in an open challenge.
Crispin looked at me ignoring the challenge. He took a deep, calming breath then looked at me. The look in his eye had my heart racing he had such a look of longing and love that I got up and ran over to him. “I’m just worried because you don’t know anything about this boy. But if you want to keep him… okay. I promise you I will not hurt him.” Crispin said nuzzling my muzzle affectionately.
I yipped in a happy bark and dug my head in his neck. “Mine. You’re mine so don’t even think I love him more then you.” I said suddenly. I could smell I hit the right spot because Crispin had the stench of jealousy on him.
Crispin looked down guilty and apologized. When he was done we walked back into the caves to see Twig sleeping again. “His name is Azhdeha. But I’m telling everyone it’s Twig. He’s such a sweet boy. Crispin you’ll like him.” I told him looking fondly down at Twig.
I walked next to Twig and curled my body around his again. But this time Crispin curled around me and laid his head on my shoulder. I licked his muzzle and fell asleep.
Chapter 7
I wandered around the out skirts of the village. With Twig walking next to me and him and the new pups of the alphas. It has been three years since Twig has been around civilization and two days since the pups have been brought into the world.
An older man walked into the forest to look for some branches for a fire.
I touched Twig’s hand with my nose and pointed in the direction the old man went. Twig looked at me, “Him?” he asked me and I nodded.
We followed him and I stopped him behind a tree. Then I walked out in the little clearing where the man was. At first he didn’t notice me so I gave a growl. I man jumped and accidentally dumped all the sticks he had in his hands.
The man reached behind him and pulled out a knife. I took a step back and sat down. “Go, get. Get out of here wolf.” The man yelled. I snorted and shook my head. The man started to walk forward with the knife pointed in front of him at me.
I looked behind me and yipped to Twig. Twig pecked his head out and looked at me then walked out to stand next to me. Twig studied the man then gasped when his gaze came to the knife in his hands. “You were going to hurt my mother?” Twig asked him cautiously and slightly hurt.
I herd the pain in his voice and whined then rubbed my head against his leg. The old man looked startled. “Uh… no I was just going to use it if she attacked me.” He paused. “Who are you boy?” The man asked looking him over.
Twig laid a hand on my head and I grinned. “My name is Azhdeha but my mom nicknamed me Twig. I’m from this village here but my mother and father are dead. So she took me in a couple of years ago.” Twig told him looking fondly down at me. “She wants me to be back around humans again. She says that she will always love me but that I have to go back home.” he told the old man gravely.
The old man looked at Twig with such surprise that I stood up. “No mom it’s okay he’s just processing what I said.” Twig said to me. I looked up at him and growled. But Twig looked down at me and laughed.
“She’s mad at me for stopping her. I think she’s also
