“Hey Olivia, are you ready to go?” My mom asks her as she is getting her bags ready to leave the class room.
“Yes, Grandma. Did you know that elephants live in Africa. We learned about it today. It was really interesting. Grandma I’m really hungry.”
“Yes, honey I knew that and we can stop at the Java Café so you can get something to eat and see your mom. Okay?” Mom said on her knees looking a Livi.
“Yay. Can we go now?” Olivia said jumping up and down.
“Of course. Let me just get your back pack first.” But by that time Olivia was already heading to the car. My mother didn’t think anything of it and continued to pack up her things. When she got out side she couldn’t find Olivia. She was panicking. She keep screaming out her name but she didn’t show up. When Mom ran around the school she found Olivia petting a dog.
“Grandma look a puppy. Isn’t he sweet?” As she was petting him and making faces. My mom was so relieved that she was okay. When they got to the Java Café she told me what happened. She said that she was so worried and she felt like having a heart attack. I told her that Olivia was fine and it was not her fault but she felt so bad after that happening.
The next day Olivia felt sick and stayed home from school. She said that her throat and tummy hurt. I took her temperature and it was 109 degrees. So I took her to the doctors and they said that she had an ammonia. They said that it was something that was not to be taken lightly. I asked them if she could stay in the hospital to make sure that she would get better and they agreed. I called my parents and they said they would stay with her when I had to work. I was so blessed for them to be back in my life. They missed out on my childhood but I’m great full that they are not missing Olives’.
After a few week Olivia was getting better and she came home. We home schooled her for a month or two while she recovered. We were very careful after that.
CHAPTER 7
When I was at the Java Café a few days later a man who was about 25 came and order a coffee and asked if I was free tomorrow. I told him I’m not dating at this moment and he walked away. The next day there was roses sitting on the counter when I came in and Beth, a girl I work with said that they were dropped of this morning. I looked at the tag and it said:
Sarah,
Just because your not dating at this moment doesn’t mean I’m going to take no for an answer. By the way my name is Stephen Brooks and I’m 25 and has lived here in Georgia all my life and if you don’t go on a date with me I will never give up.
Sincerely Stephen Brooks
(AKA Coffee Guy)
The note was sweet but I’m not sure if I can trust another guy so I asked Susan about it.
“Well Sarah, he seems like a pretty nice guy to me. I mean he is persistent.” She said. I was wondering if she forgot that Brett acted like the perfect guy and he was persistent and look what he did.
“Yeah and Brett was persistent too. I said looking at my coffee.
“You know there was no way you could have known about Brett and you have to stop blaming yourself. You can’t hate every guy for what one moron did. Not every guy is like that. Just look at Brandon, he is amazing.” I think it is sweet how Brandon is so close to her and Damian. If only a guy like that would find me.
I didn’t write Stephen back so the next day he showed up again. He asked me out again and I said no. He said he would be back and for some reason I believed him. I mean how bad could the guy be. I mights well give him a chance. So the next day I said yes and he ran to give me a gigantic hug. Later that day we went for dinner at a restaurant called the Givanies. This restaurant is very popular and hard to reservation but somehow he go them. When he picked me up he looked like a school boy. He had gaga eyes the whole day. For a good looking fella you would think he has never seen a girl in a dress.
“You look amazing.” He said as we sat at the table. It was so big in the restaurant. There was chandleries and sculptures. The hues and shades of colors was breath taking. It was very fancy. Through the whole night he couldn’t take his eyes off me. He told me that he was speechless the first time he saw me. He knew at that moment that he needed me.
“So do you have any siblings or family in Georgia?” I asked. I knew I was being snoopy but I honestly could care less. If I was going in a relationship I don’t want to be blind and not know anything about them.
“No. I’m an only child. My father wrote a song and I live off his royalties. My parents died in a car crash 4 years ago. It bothered me for a while but since I know where they went I’m fine with it. What about you?”
“Um. I was a foster child. My foster parents didn’t have much care for me and I moved out at the age of 16 but my real parents tracked me down 9 years ago and we have been very close ever since.” I wasn’t sure if telling him this was a good idea.
“Wow you had it rough. I’m sorry. So your doing better now? I’m sorry if I’m pressing any of your buttons but I just want to learn more about you.”
“Yes, I have a friend named Susan and she and my parents help a lot. I have two jobs and they watch Olivia for when me when I work.” As soon as I said Olivia, he almost spit out his drink. “Are you okay?” I asked
“Uh, yes and Olivia is your dog?” I had no idea what he was thinking when he asked me this. He knew that Olivia was not my dog.
“No. Olivia is my 9 year old daughter.”
“Oh how sweet.” He said but it sounded as if he said it sarcastically.
“Well, I have to go to the ladies room. I will be right back.” I walked to the restroom to call Susan to see how Livi was doing and she said that Olivia and Damian was playing Wii. I laughed. Susan said that Damian was getting mad because she was better than him. I laughed again. I told her to tell Olivia I would pick her up tomorrow and to tell her that I love her. When I came back to the table Stephen was gone. The next day I got a phone call and it was Stephen.
“Hi Sarah. I’m sorry for leaving yesterday but not to be mean.... I’m just not a kid kind of person. Sorry. I hope we still can be friends.” I told him that he could save his breath and to not call again. He never came to the Java Café again and I honestly didn’t mind.
CHAPTER 8
Its Olivia’s 13th Birthday. I wanted to do something special for her so I decided to take her friends and her to the Karaoke Club. It is a club for kids from the ages of 13-15. Olivia wanted to go last year but she was too young and I didn’t really approve anyway but this year I will let her. She was so surprised when I blind folded her. When we got there her friends Bethany, Damian, Steve, Sidney, and Jordian came out. She gave me a hug and told me she loved me. The look she had was priceless and I wouldn’t trade that moment for anything. Olivia got up on the stage and sung the song Impossible by Shontell. I never heard her sang before. She had such a beautiful voice. The song touched my heart. It reminded me of her father and I think she knew that. I think that she sung it on purpose.
The next day after school Olivia went to Susan’s to hang out with Damian. I got to leave work early and I went over to Susan’s to surprise Olivia. When I got there Susan said they were in Damian’s room working on a project. So I went up stairs to get her and I found them sitting on the floor kissing so I was very quiet. I made a noise that sounded like utum and they jumped.
“Mom!” Olivia said
“Hi dear I just wanted to surprise you because I got off work early.”
“Uh okay lets go.” Olivia said grabbing her jacket and running out of the house. Susan hears the front door slam and comes up stairs to see what happened.
“Is everything okay up here?” Susan asked. I looked at Damian. He was sitting on the floor. He wasn’t sure what had just happened. He stood up and looked at me.
“Damian, are you going to tell her or would you like me to.”
“Aw. Thanks Sarah. Call me in when you guys are done discussing this.” He tries to walk out of the door but I stop him.
“I don’t think so. You are going to stay.”
“Will someone tell me what just happened?” Susan asked in an irritated tone.
“When I came in I found my daughter and your son on the floor kissing.” Susan looked mad.
“Damian Jones! In the Den now!” Susan screamed. “Sarah I am so sorry. I hope this didn’t cause you any trouble. How about we talk to out kids then compare notes, then after that talk to them together?” Susan suggested.
“Good idea. I will stop over tomorrow.” I said leaving the house. Olivia was quiet the ride home. When we got home she went straight to her room without dinner. The next day it was a Saturday and I stayed home from work. I couldn’t believe that I saw my daughter kissing my best friends son. I knocked on Olivia’s door and there was no answer so I opened it up and no one was there. I saw the window open. I knew that she went to Susan’s. So I drove there.
“Susan did you see Damian last night after I left or this morning?” I asked
“No. Why?”
“Because Olivia is missing and if Damian is not here than I no where they went.” I told her and we headed up stairs to find Olivia sleeping on the floor and Damian in the bed. We pulled the covers off them and told them to get up.
“Mom, what are you doing here?” Olivia Asked
“Thats really funny because I was going to ask you the same question.”
“I, I, I, I, I don’t know.” That was the worst answer she could have given me.
