Read FICTION books online

Reading books fiction Have you ever thought about what fiction is? Probably, such a question may seem surprising: and so everything is clear. Every person throughout his life has to repeatedly create the works he needs for specific purposes - statements, autobiographies, dictations - using not gypsum or clay, not musical notes, not paints, but just a word. At the same time, almost every person will be very surprised if he is told that he thereby created a work of fiction, which is very different from visual art, music and sculpture making. However, everyone understands that a student's essay or dictation is fundamentally different from novels, short stories, news that are created by professional writers. In the works of professionals there is the most important difference - excogitation. But, oddly enough, in a school literature course, you don’t realize the full power of fiction. shambles, but somehow the walls were still standing.

Grace was the first one to enter the house while the others followed in suit. “You guys are a bunch of wimps. There is nothing even here!” exclaimed Grace as she looked around what looked to be a normal living room.

“Let’s get through this already,” Alan said, hiding his fear with his words.

“What? You scared?” Grace teased, hearing the fear undertones in his voice. Ryan laughed while Lindsay giggled. “Come on, let’s check this place out before we-”

“Blood! Guts! Blood!” A voice whispered, interrupting her. The four kids froze, their eyes widening and muscles retracting. The door slammed behind them, causing Lindsay to shriek.

“Blood! Guts! Blood!” The words repeated, bouncing off the words. The words were much clearer now. The voice echoed again and again, each time being louder and louder. Ryan panicked, rushing towards the door to unlock it but to no avail. The door would not open, unfazed by Ryan’s attempts. Alan rushed to his side, trying to help Ryan with the door. It wouldn’t move an inch.

“Why is it locked?” Grace asked. “How did it get locked?”

“I don’t know!” Ryan told her. “The wind, I guess?” He was getting close to hyperventilating.

“Don’t tell me this is an actual haunted house!” Grace exclaimed.

“You’re not messing with us right?” Lindsay asked; she was scared out of her mind.

“I’m not!” Ryan shouted. Ryan and Alan were both tugging at the door and screaming for help while Lindsay collapsed on the ground and Grace looked around for the voice.

“Blood! Guts! Blood!” The words echoed again.

“Damn… Lindsay help us!” Ryan shouted. Both Ryan and Alan had their backs turned on Grace and Lindsay, through her constant sobbing, didn’t notice that Grace was nowhere to be seen. It took a few moments before Ryan turned around, noticing that they were missing a person. “Where’s Grace?”

“Blood! Guts! Blood!” The words ricocheted off the walls alongside a scream from a familiar voice, this one sounding eerily like Grace.

“We have to help her!” Ryan said. He followed Grace’s screams with Alan in tow. Lindsay didn’t follow them, sitting in a corner of the living room by herself. She continued to sob even while the boys disappeared from the room. She stopped after an unfamiliar man stepped into the room, staring at her.

“Who are you?” She questioned. The man didn’t respond.

Grace screamed in fear as she was being carried by an enormous man wearing a black hoodie and carrying an ax. She continued screaming but stopped after she felt pain in her left shoulder. She looked over slowly and saw a knife sticking out of her shoulder.

The man was annoyed by her screams, using the knife to stop her temporarily. The man then threw Grace into a locked-off room that he unlocked. She landed on a clean mattress, which looked weird amidst the dirty belongings of the abandoned Jefferson house. Grace stared in shock as she watched her captor leave the room, escaping down the hallway.

The house has grey walls and a confusing amount of hallways similar to that of a maze. Grace was carried through three hallways and landed at a room in the back corner of a large hallway. The twisting hallways seemed to have shifted as every time Grace looked behind her… she always saw a different path waiting for her. The ax-man went through the hallway they took, seemingly disappearing. The hallway that they took now shifted to look different with new paintings, vases, and even rugs in their place.

Grace waited a minute before leaving the room. I need to get the hell out of her, She thought. She rushed into the hallways without a plan. She headed into the confusing maze of hallways. “Help-” She started before stopping. She didn’t want to attract the attention of the ax-man wherever he was. She continued into the hallways searching for her friends. She didn’t notice someone following closely behind her.

Meanwhile, Ryan and Alan couldn’t hear Grace’s screams anymore. With the worst in mind, the two rushed deeper into the house to find Grace. “Ryan… I don’t think we can find her!” Alan said.

“So what should we do then? Huh?” Ryan shouted, raising an eyebrow.

“I don’t know! For all, we know she could be dead!” Alan exclaimed.

“Don’t say that!” Ryan shouted, gripping Alan’s collar. He didn’t have the strength to raise him into the air. “Dude! Never say that!” He stared at Alan in the eyes and kept eye contact with him as a whistling sound started up. Ryan broke the eye contact and stared down a hallway to see an ax on the floor. He released Alan and whispered “run when I say” to him. Alan nodded.

The ax was then picked up by a familiar hand. The hand was surprisingly scrawny and has a couple of marks on it. Ryan also noticed a familiar tattoo. It was a butterfly tattoo that Lindsay had on her right arm. “Lindsay?” Ryan muttered, furrowing his brows,

Alan stared in shock as he also noticed the tattoo and recognized Lindsay. The figure stepped out from the abyss to reveal that it was Lindsay, but her face was distorted. Her body was ripped open and her guts were falling to the ground.

“Run!” Ryan shouted. Alan listened to him and turned away from Lindsay, sprinting down the hallway. Ryan turned around to do the same but took one lingering look at Lindsay before leaving. As Ryan ran he could hear Lindsay screaming and tearing up behind him.

Grace wandered the halls, searching for her friends. She could hear screaming coming from Lindsay, her ears perking up. “Lindsay!” She shouted. She ran towards Lindsay’s screams, fearing the worst. What’s happening? she thought.

She turned the corner of the hallway she had entered, discovering Lindsay standing in the middle of the hallway with her back towards her. The hallway was the same one that Ryan and Alan had left moments ago. “Lindsay!” She shouted, surprised to see her friend alive. However, something seemed off. She slowed to a walk, approaching her slowly.

Meanwhile, Ryan and Alan heard Grace coming from the hallway that they had left moments ago, even though she hadn’t been there seconds before. “That was Grace,” Alan said, furrowing his brows. “How? How did she get there?”

“Let’s go back,” Ryan said, immediately turning around. He sprinted towards Grace’s voice. Alan followed him but noticed that the hallway looks different.

Wait, maybe it looks different because we didn’t have time to look around, He thought to himself. Yeah… Maybe…? He continued following Ryan, going around the corner that they had taken but finding something strange. Once they turned the corner, Ryan, who was in front of him, had slammed into a wall. The hallway that was there moments ago no longer existed.

“What the hell?” Ryan muttered. “There was a hallway right here, right?” He asked Alan.

Alan nodded. “Something’s off with this house. Where the hell did you learn about this house from?”

“I was having a conversation with my brother over text and he told me about this place. Said I could impress the girl… Said I could impress my friends by visiting it.” Ryan said.

Alan shook his head. “Well… that’s… that’s interesting.”

Ryan nodded in agreement. “Something’s off then. How could the hallway disappear that quickly? And where did Lindsay go?”

Alan shrugged his shoulders. He stared at what was in front of him. There was a foot or two of the hallway after the corner, but it stopped there. It was as if somebody had placed a wall at the corner before moving it back a few feet. It didn’t look natural at all.

The wall that now stood in front of them was decorated in red and black wallpaper in contrast to the blue and gray that dominated the walls. It all seemed strange to the boys, both of them baffled by the strange occurrence.

***

Grace heard talking coming from behind a wall at the end of the hallway. A puzzled Grace glanced at the wall before at Lindsay, opening her mouth to speak. A few seconds later, she stopped. She took several steps back as Lindsay slowly turned around, her guts being apparent on the floor.

â€śLindsay?” Grace croaked, both eyebrows raised. She took another step backward as Lindsay raised her head for Grace to see more details. Her face was distorted in a way that wasn’t possible. It was a gruesome sight, frightening Grace. “What the hell!” She shouted. She turned around, sprinting away from Lindsay and the monster she had become. She ran into something… or somebody. A creature appeared from the darkness to reveal scales and sharp claws. The claws lightly brushed against Grace’s face. She looked up at the creatures, her eyes widening. She let out a loud shrieked.

Then she disappeared.

Ryan and Alan heard Grace’s screams start and end-all in a couple of seconds. “Grace?” Ryan muttered. “G-Grace?”

“Dude, I think… I think she’s gone,” Alan said - his voice full of remorse.

“Why!” Ryan said. He pummeled the wall with his fists. He banged his fists as strongly as he could, not letting up on his punches.

“Ryan,” Alan said. Ryan ignored him and continued banging on the walls. His knuckles were getting bloody.

“Ryan,” Alan repeated but to no avail.

“Ryan,” He repeated, this one proving to be less fruitful than the last.

“Ryan!” Alan shouted, grabbing his shoulder and pulling him away from the wall. “Stop! I understand your relationship with Grace, but injuring yourself won’t help her.” Alan told him. “We need to find her. Clear your head first, We will help Grace in time. Don’t end up like your brother.” Alan told him.

“I’m sorry. You’re right.” Ryan said, turning to face Alan. “Thanks.”

“No worries. Now… Let’s go find her,” Alan said.

“Yeah,” Ryan said. The two boys then went down the hallway which only had one door. The door was open for no apparent reason. The inside was unlit and neither boy could see anything moving from it. They cautiously approached the room, hesitating to go any further than they had already gone.

After several seconds, they entered the room. Alan looked for the light switch, finding it quickly. He flicked it on, illuminating the room. It was vacant with only a clean mattress and a camera in the room. The room’s walls were dirty and the floor was filthy and filled with small insects. Neither boy went any farther, slowly backing away from the room. However, the camera looked important.

“We need to see what’s on it. Maybe… Maybe it knows where Grace went.” Alan insisted.

Ryan nodded, taking the first step towards it. He maneuvered around the clumps of alive and dead bugs before reaching the camera. He grabbed it, wiping it clean on his jeans, before pressing the power button. He waited a few seconds before it turned on, giving him the words of “Three Flags”. He furrowed his brows at the name, recognizing it. “Wait, isn’t this the-” He was stopped by a familiar voice.

Grace appeared behind them, pushing Alan deeper into the room. Her face was distorted and her guts were spilled all over the floor. Lindsay was at her side. Both girls then screeched “Blood! Guts! Blood!” They repeated their words several times before entering the room, locking the door behind them. Screams soon followed.
