âI donât know. Iâm actually sure what Battle isâ I replied being completely honest.
âYou use spells and stuff against you opponents and on the odd occasion we learn hand to hand combat as wellâ Gabby explained to me.
âThen Iâll be beaten to a pulpâ I commented.
âIf you pair with me I can look after youâ He said. I could feel myself going red at the offer.
âDo you fight in pairs?â I asked.
âYep, two against two.â He replied.
I looked towards Gabby. I could see her pulse racing. As much as I would jump at going with him I have often said friendship over relationship.
âMaybe next time, I think this one I should stick with my friendâ I replied.
âNext time then?â he asked.
âYehâ I replied.
CHAPTER FIVE
BRAD
Break wasnât as bad as I thought it would be. There was a large room where you could hang out. I could see you hung in your own groups. The populars with the populars, the nerds with the nerds, the middle class with the middle class, and the training guards with the training guards. Gabby turned out to be a training guard, so I stood with her. She introduced me to her friends. Most of their names went in one ear and out the other. But I couldnât help noticing Bradâs eyes floating over to me every so often, the only thing was mine where doing the same for him and on the odd occasion our eyes locked. Every time they did I quickly turned away, blushing a deep red.
The bell went.
Magical Creatures.
Magical Creatures was completely theory. We were looking in the text books at various different creatures that I believed to be just myths. I was sat sharing a double table with Gabby at the back right hand corner of the room. Brad and Billy where sat on the front in the opposite corner. Again my eyes often floated from off my book to connect with his.
âDo you have a crush on him?â Gabby asked me half way through.
âWhat would make you say that?â I asked her, half laughing.
âJust the way you are looking at him, thatâs allâ she replied.
âI think I doâ I replied. I quickly turned serious and looked her in the eye and asked âWhat do I do?â
âNothing. Itâs natural to have a crush, and by the way heâs looking at you I would say he took a fancy on you too. Heâs a good one to catchâ remarked Gabby.
âGirls, I hope you are concentrating on your bookâ remarked the teacher. I turned my eye back to the book. We were meant to reading about Werewolves.
CREATURES OF THE NIGHT
WEREWOLVES
Werewolves are well known for being half-breeds of Wolf and man. Most typical Werewolves are those born a man and bitten or scratched by another Werewolves, but there are some recorded that have been born a Werewolf.
The origin of the Werewolf is unknown but what is known is they are most definitely dangerous creature of the night. During the day and twenty five nights of the month they are harmless but on the three night that the moon is full they turn vicious. They lose complete sense of themselves, so much so, they would kill their own family if they came in contact with them.
Nice. So heartless creatures of the night really do exist.
Lunch.
At lunch the large room we had been in at break had been turned into a cafeteria. The combination of food was great. I chose to have spaghetti and meatballs, and I have to say, they were the best spaghetti and meatballs I have ever had. I didnât get much chance to stare at Brad though because as soon as we had eaten, Gabby had grabbed my wrist and was pulled me up to my room. Just like Mistress Halsente had said two guards were stood outside of my room. One on either side. Brilliant, and this wasnât invading privacy?.
âMalestra Voltraâ I said with one finger on the wall. I remembered at least.
I headed in with Gabby following. I took my white bag out of my school bag and pinned it to my pillow just like Mistress Halsente had instructed.
We only came up so I could tie my hair back but we spent the rest of lunch in there talking, mainly me asking about Brad. Though most of the questions Gabby couldnât actually answer.
Time for battle.
I followed Gabby to the battle room. It was a large room. It was only just bigger than the sports hall at my old school and that was the size of a football pitch. The whole class filled in. I could tell by everybodyâs faces that nobody really liked this lesson.
This teacher was large and bulky. He stood over even the tallest students. Everybody cowered under him. But you know what they always say âtheir bark is worse than their biteâ.
Unfortunately what wasnât true, he seemed as heartless as a werewolf on a full moon.
âRight, in your usual pairs pleaseâ he barked.
Gabby had no choice but pair with her usual partner â one of the trainee guards. I was stood alone.
âNew girl. Here nowâ He shouted towards me.
I gulped and walked towards him.
âWhatâs you name girl?â he asked.
âCh... Charlieâ I stuttered out.
âCharlie what?â he asked.
It was then that I realised that nobody in my class apart from Gabby knew my full name, they just knew me a Charlie.
âCharlie Gyidâ I spat out.
The teacher recoiled a little. The rest of the class gasped.
âWell, letâs find you a partnerâ he said turning to the rest of the group.
Gabby stepped forward and started to speak âSir, I have been...â
âShut it, short pie. Back with your partnerâ he barked.
âYes Mr Walice. Sorryâ whispered Gabby stepping back.
âWatkins. You can go with Miss Gyid. That breaks up the annoying tripletâ barked Mr Walice with an evil smile on his face.
Brad had been stood with Billy and another lad. There was obviously an odd number before I joined the class.
Brad walked to my side. He shot me a smile then turned to face Mr Walice.
âToday you will fighting one Vs one in your pairs. Hand to hand combatâ Said Mr Walice. He looked around as everybody gulped. âWell what are you waiting for?â
Everybody scattered into their places. Brad took my hand and lead me to a free space. He actually took my hand. I felt about ready to scream âOH MY GODâ.
âYou never told me you were Charlie Gyidâ he commented as he took his fighting stance.
âYou never askedâ I replied looking at him a bit confused.
âYou never had a fight before have you?â he asked in a bit of a sigh. I shook my head ânoâ.
He walked to me.
âPut one foot in front of the otherâ he said.
âDoes it matter which way?â I asked.
âYou strongest foot in frontâ he replied.
I placed my right foot in front.
âI guess your right handed then?â he laughed.
âYepâ I replied briefly.
He move behind me. I could feel his chest pressing up against my back, and his breath breathing down my neck. He placed his hands on top of my own, and raised them up in a fighting stance.
âIs that comfortable?â he asked.
âYehâ I replied almost as soon as he had started the last word.
âGoodâ he replied. He backed away. I could feel the disappointment run through my veins. He walked around so he was opposite me. He took his stance.
âIâll try and go easy on youâ he laughed.
I couldnât bring a laugh up. Butterflies were flying around my stomach. He made his move. A right punch, narrowly miss my head. I just managed to dodge his second punch to the stomach. I backed away.
âYouâll have to fight back eventuallyâ he said.
I could feel Gabby watching as best as she could while dodging punches herself.
I couldnât explain what happened next. It shocked even me.
He went to punch again but I blocked with my left and punched him in the gut, winding him. I moved back. He was shocked as I was. My mind was on fire. I rushed to him and asked, âAre you alright?â
âYep... Iâll be... fineâ is all about what he managed to spit it.
I helped him to his feet but his stomach was still scrunched up.
âYou have... one nasty... punchâ he gasped.
âSorry. I donât know what happened.âI whimpered.
âHey, donât you... go crying on me... it was a fair fight. I should have... seen that comingâ he replied starting to get his breath back. He was able to straighten up a little.
âIâm sorry. Iâve never punch anybody in my life. Are you sure you are alright?â I repeated.
âIâm fineâ he was at the point of laughter at my over-protectiveness. He straightened up a little more.
âSure?â I asked.
âSureâ he replied âI think itâs just the shock of itâ
He stood back straight.
âAre you ready to go again?â he asked me.
I stood back and nodded slowly.
We both took our fight stance. He went to punch me but I grabbed his wrist.
The rest was a blur. I had grabbed his wrist but the next thing I knew he was lay on the floor, rubbing the back of his head.
âOk, I am never underestimating you againâ he commented as he sat up. I sat down next to him.
âMust we continue or can we just pretend for the rest of today?â I asked him softly.
He said nothing but nodded. He stood and put his hand out to me. I grabbed it. He pulled me up and we both got into our fight stances.
As the two hours of Battle passed, Mr Walice walked around the different pairs watching them fight, when he came to watch us, we both put on a good performance and he walked away smiling.
âPerhaps youâd like to maybe spend some time with me later? I know this really nice place in the mountain where we could goâ He asked as the lesson was coming to a close.
âI would love toâ I replied rather quiet but with an exciting ring to it.
âGood. What room are you in?â He asked.
âRoom thirty-one.â I replied.
âWell, shall I come to you at seven â after dinner?â he asked.
âYeh. Thatâll be greatâ I replied.
I joined Gabby as he re-joined his friends. Gabby lead me back to my room when I explained everything to her. She was almost as excited as I was.
âHe actually took you hand?â she gasped.
âYehâ I screamed.
It was then I heard my phone vibrate. I didnât have to go over to it to know why. Alison would have text back. I walk to it and picked it up. In fact she had text me not just once or twice but three times.
âSorry about your house. Hope you come back soon ïâ
âHey, in geography, so boring without you, hope your having a better time than I am ïâ
âHas your father said yet when youâll be returning home, me and Ricky want to know. Yes Ricky is asking about you. I think he misses you. :Pâ
That just put a damper on the mood. Gabby walked to my side.
âWhatâs up?â she asked.
âAlison has been texting meâ I replied.
âAlison?â she asked.
I picked up the photo of Alison and I.
âWe were bestest best friends in the whole worldâ I told her.
âIâm sorryâ she replied.
âNah, itâs alrightâ I said as I started to text back.
âStarted my new school. Itâs crazy. Nothing like Razor Hill. You would
