Lester del Rey (June 2, 1915 – May 10, 1993) was an American science fiction author and editor. He was the author of many books in the juvenile Winston Science Fiction series, and the editor at Del Rey Books, the fantasy and science fiction imprint of Ballantine Books, along with his fourth wife Judy-Lynn del Rey.

This is the story of Fredrick Pondercast, sent here from distant worlds to observe human life. Fredrick is greatly troubled by what he finds as Earth life is nearly exactly like his homeland in its far distant past before his people destroyed their world and nearly ended their lives. 

The Wandering Heart is about a young girl who wishes to travel and experience new and exciting things. One thing she has never found in her searches is love.
