ALPHACRITTERS

Al had an aye-aye (some thought it extinct!)

Who caused him to laugh every time that it blinked.

Bob had a buffalo – that was a sight!

They’d sit side-by-side ’round the campfire at night.

Charlotte liked chickens, but never to eat!

She had one named Clucky who pecked at her feet.

Debra’s Dalmatian by accident spilled

A bucket of house paint – her mom was not thrilled.

Edmund, whose eel swam about in their pond,

Liked watching it swirl, and he named it Armand.

Fred and his ferret would walk through the town

On every third Monday, sun-up to sundown.

Gillian’s groundhog, so furry and fat,

Looked great in a jacket, but not in a hat.

Harriet’s hog, though it grunted a lot,

Seemed happy enough – even when it was hot.

Ian’s iguana was spiky and cute

Despite rolling eyes and an oddly-shaped snoot.

Joshua’s jellyfish tried not to sting –

He seemed to like Josh; what a very strange thing!

Katherine’s kestrel would soar through the sky,

Then come back when Katherine was baking a pie.

Lillian’s lemur, whose eyes were gigantic,

Was born in a country across the Atlantic.

Mike’s merry monkey would make a big mess

And run through the house wearing Mike’s mother’s dress.

Nicolai’s newt liked to nibble on bugs,

And slither around under bookshelves and rugs.

Opaline’s octopus climbed his tank wall,

And when he got out, scurried right down the hall.

Pamela’s penguin ate baba ganoush,

Then slid down his snowy white hill with a “whoosh!”

Quinn had a quail, who liked bobbing its head

When asked any question, or whistled instead.

Ralph was a rascal; he had a raccoon

Whose favorite toy was a stuffed green baboon.

Sylvia’s sloth was a sleepy old thing –

He’d snooze in a tree while she sat on her swing.

Tabitha’s tarsier saw without strain,

’Cause each of its eyeballs weighed more than its brain!

Ulysses’ umbrellabird had a red throat

And rode every day on the back of a goat.

Vince had a vulture, and stranger than that,

The bird was best friends with a vampire bat!

Wendy would drink from a juice-filled canteen

When walking at dawn with her pet wolverine.

Xanthippe’s fish was a cute X-Ray Tetra;

She gave it the elegant name of Electra.

Yuri would rinse off his yak with a hose,

And feed it with apples whenever he chose.

Zach had a marvelous pet called a zonkey –

Its mom was a zebra, its father a donkey!

All of these critters are real, but I bet

There are many more nobody knows about yet!
