It is Christmas Eve at the North Pole. The elves help Santa load his sleigh. Santa heads towards Sterling, Kansas.
The reindeer are hungry. They stop at Gambino’s in Sterling where Tony Smith has left out nine large pizzas for the reindeer to eat. “Yum, yum!” the reindeer say as they eat their cheese, meat craver’s, beef, and chicken pizzas.
After a big meal, the reindeer need a little exercise. They go to the soccer field to play. From the back of the sleigh, they borrow a soccer ball they brought for Caleb. “Caleb won’t mind if we borrow his soccer ball.”
After playing soccer, the reindeer are hot. They stop by the swimming pool to cool off, but it’s December, so the pool is closed.
“Try the lake instead,” Santa says. They try to dip their toes into the lake, but it’s frozen.
They slide on the ice instead, and the ice cools them off.
Santa says, “Now it’s time to deliver some gifts.” They stop by First Bank and Alden State Bank to leave gifts for the workers. Santa leaves some money in their stockings.
Next, they go to Sterling College. They visit the football field, Smisor Stadium. This is where the Sterling College Warriors play ball! “Let’s leave them a brand new football,” Rudolph says.
At the Sterling College music building, Wilson Hall, Santa leaves Dr. Brad Nix a brand new Steinway grand piano. “Ho, ho, ho,” Santa chuckles. “He sure will be surprised!”
“I always love flying over Cooper Hall,” Santa says to the reindeer.
It’s a windy night, and Santa’s hair is blowing in his eyes. He was so busy getting ready for Christmas that he forgot to get a haircut. As he flies by the Wild Hair Salon, he sees a light on. It is Misti Ravenstein working late. She cuts Santa’s hair.
Santa flies over the post office. “This is where the children of Sterling go to mail me their letters so I will know what they want for Christmas!” he says.
Santa stops at Sterling Services. He has a list of all the people that work there and sees that they have been good. He leaves them some stamps to use on the letters they write.
At the Coop, Santa leaves Greg Farney and his workers a new bag of grain.
After all that work, the reindeer are ready for a break. They notice a light on in the Sterling Grade School Library. The librarian, Mrs. Brownlee, has fallen asleep over a pile of books. She wakes up and reads them a quick story before they head out.
As Santa’s sleigh visits all the houses in Sterling, they fly over many different places. They fly over the power plant that provides electricity to the town to give them light and heat.
They fly past Jacam, a company that gives many jobs to Sterling workers.
As the sleigh lands near Dollar General, Dasher, one of the reindeer, hurts his leg. “Let’s get you to the doctor,” Santa says.
They take Dasher to Ark Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Randolph says, “Santa, go ahead and deliver the rest of the gifts around Sterling while I look at Dasher’s leg.”
Santa makes deliveries to many houses in Sterling.
After they deliver gifts, the reindeer play at the Sterling Grade School playground while Santa goes to the vet clinic to check on Dasher.
“Good news!” Santa says when he returns to Sterling Grade School. “Dasher just has a sprain. Dr. Randolph wrapped it and says that, with rest, his leg will soon be as good as new.”
After picking up Dasher, the sleigh heads back toward the North Pole. “Merry Christmas, Sterling!” Santa says. “See you next year!”
