“Err..Jack and I are… umm… we’re partners?” I said not knowing how to explain it. “Ashley that just sounded wrong.” Jack said, and judging by everyone’s expressions he was right. “She means that we are both destined to fight, together, against all…creatures that threaten earth.” He said. “Why didn’t you just say that Ashley?” Abby asked. “Well he kind of caught me off guard with the whole telling you thing.” I said. “No, not that let me rephrase. Why didn’t you tell us that as soon as you heard?” she said. “Because I thought you’d be mad?” I said sounding like a guilty child that got caught.
“And your right,” said Stacey, “I am not letting you fight “creatures” it is just unsafe and icky!” “That not something you get to decide.” Said something from behind me. I turned to find a man about thirty behind me. He was very handsome for his age, except for this scar on his face near his right eye. “Then who is it up to, cause I’ll go talk to them, I tend to be very persuasive.” She said with a hint of pride. “It is up to him.” He said pointing up, “and unless you’re dead you’re not going to meet him.” Stacey glared at the man “Who are you?” Casey asked from behind Abby. “I,” he said “am William Camden, but most people call me Will.” Ahh, so this was Uncle Will. So Jack got his looks from this side of his family I thought. Holy Crap! I can’t believe I just thought that! I just admitted he was hot! Eww! Ohh God I’m losing my mind. “Ashley, are you Ok?” Jack, his face appeared in front of me. I screamed, very loudly. “Why the hell did you do that?” He asked with his hands over his ears. I did the same thing I always do when I’m embarrassed. I became mean. “I saw your face.” I said with the straightest face known to mankind. Stacey, Abby, and Chris laughed, while Casey, Uncle Will, and Ash frowned. Jack stood there glaring. Jack’s uncle was the first to break the silence. “Ashley, I do not mean to be rude, but why are you here?”
“Well, Jack and I were kind of attacked during school so Mrs. Meyers sent us home.” I said. Uncle wills eyes almost popped out of his head. “During school!” Uncle will started, “Why didn’t Jessica ( I’m guessing this is Mrs. Meyers?) tell me?” “Are you ok?” Cassey asked. “Yeah I think” I said. “Cassey do a full body check just in case.” “Ughhh!! No I hate those!!” It basically means that Cassey, who has the power to heal (we all do, but hers is the most powerful and effective), is going to change to her natural form, then travel inside and throughout my body to look for damage. It feels really weird. “Sorry if it uncomfortable.” Cassey said looking down. I instantly felt guilty. “No, Cassey it isn’t your fault, it just that it feel different, that all.” I said trying to explain. “Full body scan,” Chris said, “sounds interesting.” Cassey’s eyes turned red. “And what is that supposed to mean?” she said glaring towards him. “Umm nothing.” He said looking scarred. “Good.” She said her eyes turning back to their normal hazel color. “Do you think it would be all right to let them see my natural form?” She asked Uncle Will. “I kind of have to get permission from you before they can see it.” I know it weird, but it for legal purposes.
He nodded. Cassey dropped her head. She started to glow, her hair began to wave, her clothes morphed into a dark blue silk dress that went off the shoulder and ended at her feet. Her face once plain, now had a natural, soft make up look. Her eyes turned an intense green, while her hair now all wavy turned a soft brown. “Whoa” I heard Chris say. I smiled. “You know it been a while since I’ve seen you like that.” I said. Cassey blushed. “Ashley come towards me so that we can get this over with.” She said. Cassey always got more confidence in her natural form, I wish she would be in more often. I nodded. “I wonder how the rest of them look in their natural form.” I heard Chris say. “And what does that mean.” I heard Cassey say. Uh-oh, in her human form she harmless, but like this, this is bad. “Cassey, don’t do anything rash.” I whispered towards her. She looked at me, then at Chris. She sighed and said, “OK let’s begin.” I felt a cold wind then I blacked out.
I woke up on the floor. “How long was I out?” I asked Abby. “A little over twenty minutes.” “It’s getting better.” I said. She nodded. I got up and almost fell flat on my face, but Jack caught me at the last moment. “Ow.” I said clutching my fore head that felt like it was on fire. “Are you ok?” He asked with actual concern. Then I went into shock.
“Uhh, Ashley?” he asked. “Sorry, I was kind of shocked, you actually sounded concerned and it freaked me out.” I said. He rolled his eyes, “I do have a heart you know?” he said. Know that sounded like the Jack I knew. “Can you let go of me know?” I asked. He looked at Abby. “It probably isn’t a good idea to let her walk on her own.” She said.
He nodded, then wrapped one of his arms under my legs and the other around my waist, then picked me up in a princess lift. “What the, p-put me down!” I could practically feel the blush spreading across my face. “Comfy?” Stacey asked with a smirk. “Oh shut up!” I yelled, mostly because it um, kind of was. Jack started up the huge stair case. “Hey where are you taking me?!” I yelled as I tried to squirm out of Jacks grip. “To …..” he looked at Abby for an answer. “She should lay down un a bed.” She said. Everything was in a blur, it looked really pretty, all the colors swirled and mixed together. The next thing I knew I was in a huge room, painted light blue, with simple wooden furniture.
“Now that was freakin’ awesome.” I said. Jack was looking down at me amused. “After a while you kind of get used to it.” He said. “No way,” I said shaking my head, “that is not possible.” He rolled his eyes at my stubbornness, and set me down on an old wooden bed with white bed sheets. “So… Where am I?” I asked starring at the plain blue wall. They were in perfect shape, not even a scratch of paints was missing. “Guest room” I lifted an eyebrow at him. “Yeah we don’t get guests often” he said. “Gee, I wonder why, with all the electrifying doors and death traps, it’s very weird why you don’t have guests.” I said rolling my eyes. He let out a sign and said, “Your making me regret being nice to you.” “Yeah, don’t do that, it’s kind of freaking me out every time you do.” I said.
“What do you mean by freaking you out?” I started to think of all those weird feelings I had been having. Oh crap, I should not have brought that up, I thought. I can’t see my face but I am sure it’s red, I thought while trying not to avoid eye contact. “Ashley, are you okay, you’re turning red, I think you might have a fever.” Jack said (P.S. thank god that boys are so clueless). I shook my head, and covered my embarrassment with a lie, “Yeah probably, it could be an after effect from the body scan.” I nodded while he headed out of the room for a thermometer. I sighed and fell back into the bed, taking in the scent. It smelt like Jack. I drew the bed sheets closer, I wonder what type of cologne he wears, it smells nice, kind of like… My eyes got wide and I sat straight up, “What the hell, I can’t believe I actually thought of that.”
“Thought what?” Jack said holding a thermometer in his hands. I gulped and said the first thing that came to my mind, “Err, why is the sky blue?” (I know stupid, but give me some credit; I was extremely confused while this was going on) he looked at me oddly. “Oka-y, I think we should take your temperature now.” he said. He came closer and sat down on the bed. Oh God, he was really close, and I mean REALLY close, like three inches away. “Open.” He instructed. I opened my mouth a little. He sighed, then grabbed my jaw and pulled it down. I was shocked and a little annoyed, but mostly shocked by how warm and gentle his hands were. He put the thermometer in it then shut my mouth closed, but he kept his hand where it was. I meant to say ‘What the hell are you doing’, but it came out more like “Ha e ell ah y oaing” “I’m not sure what you said, but I’m goanna guess, what I’m doing,” he said then, looked at me for conformation, I nodded “Is keeping you from opening you mouth, so that we’ll get an accurate temperature.” I rolled my eyes. Then there was a huge flash of light, and then I blacked out.
