Brittany's Four Feathered Friends
By Papa Ray
Harold the Heron, a crusty old thing with a
Slightly bent beak and one crooked wing,
With fading blue feathers, a few turning gray
Comes looking for hand-outs in my yard every day.
His friends, Nefra TeTe, Sam Seagull and Caw,
The most unlikely foresome that you ever saw,
Sam Seagull the screamer, Caw Blackbird the sneak,
The Egret Nefra TeTe with her long yellow beak.
They all got together that one special day
To watch this new girl in the neighborhood play.
A cute little redhead in a sandbox of green,
Was the happiest sight that they’d ever seen.
She molded her castles with her little hand,
Creating a mystical child’s fairyland.
She paid no attention to the odd feathered four,
As they crowded together to see more and more.
Caw was the first one that started to sing.
He cawed and he cawed and was one funny thing.
Soon was a chorus of four silly birds,
Each singing a song without any words.
Brittany turned at the caws, cackles and croaks
And blinked her blue eyes at the feathery folks.
She smiled and she waved at the admiring crew,
Caw, Sam, Nefra TeTe and old Harold too.
They then waved at her by flapping their wings.
She laughed and laughed at those feathery things.
The birds seemed to trust Miss Brittany B,
For soon they were dancing and singing with glee.
What to do next, some place to get cool,
Well let’s all take a swim in Papa Ray’s pool.
The crystal clear water was cool, a delight.
Five friends swimming together, Oh what a sight.
On Brittany’s list of those she does love,
Are four feathered creatures that soar high above.
They still sing her praises in their own special way
And they’ll always be friends, I’m happy to
say.
