Prologue

God, I miss her. I cant believe she’s gone. She was only sixteen for crying out loud! It’s not fair. My best friend is gone, and there is no way she is coming back.
When I found out Lily was run over and killed by a drunk driver, I broke down crying. We do everything together. Or, we used to.
She helped me through everything. After my dad died of cancer, Lily was there to comfort me. When I would have problems with my alcoholic mother, Lily was there. Now I’m alone and best friendless.

Chapter 1-After the Funeral

As I walked out of the funeral home, I wiped my eyes with a tissue. I couldn’t stand being in there any more. Its hard to see my best friend like that. Dead.
I adjusted my black dress and sat in my car. Then the tears took over.
I just sat there, sobbing, until my eyes went dry. I looked at my appearance in the mirror, only to find my makeup ruined. Lily would have said that I looked like a hot mess. And I did, except for the hot part.
At the thought of her name, I remembered I was supposed to be in the funeral home. I gathered up what little strength I had, checked my appearance one final time, and got out of my car and walked into the building.

After the funeral and burial ceremony, I got in my car and drove home.
As usual, my mom was passed out on our couch, bottle of wine in hand. Ever since my dad died, all she does is drink and pass out on our couch.
I cleaned up all the bottles scattered on the floor and put a blanket over my mom. Even though she is a drunk, I love her, so I have to take care of her.
Once the living room was decent, I went up stairs to take a shower, hoping the hot water would make me feel better.
It actually made me feel worse. All I could think about was Lily. How she would miss out on everything we were going to do together.
After I finished showering, I put on some jeans and a black t-shirt. I put on my Converse, and walked downstairs.
My mom was still asleep, so I left a note saying that I was going for a walk.
~~~
I walked through my neighborhood, enjoying the quietness of it. Once I saw the trees, I made a beeline for them. Nobody knew this, but there was a beautiful stream hidden in the middle of this forest, and that was where I was headed.
I arrived at the stream and was amazed because of its beauty. There were multicolored flowers everywhere, and the sunlight that made it through the trees caused the clear water to glisten. I was in awe.
Exhausted from my walk here, I sat against a tree with my legs spread out in front of me.
