“Um… in minute,

those people are staring at us now.” I whispered. She gave

me the look, which means I better spill soon or she’ll make

a huge scene. She can be pretty creative with them so I do

my best to avoid them. This so wasn’t one of my brightest

ideas. “Okay, but like I said you won’t believe me.” She

gave me the look again I better get on with it. “Alright

let me start from the very beginning. Way way back, my

ancestors found out they were special, well the females did

anyways. And here comes the part where you won’t believe

me. The reason they were so special is because they could

be turned and have children.” “Wait, wait!! What do you

mean be turned?” she asked confused. Oh jeez I need to

explain better duh she’s not getting it. “Well…into

were’s.” Oh god I’m dumb, just spit it out and get it over

with! “Like werewolves, but there isn’t just wolves there’s

so much more. Anyway, my female ancestors never made it

past eighteen before they were turned.” “Okay, so say I

believe you. If none of your female ancestors didn’t stay

human, then how are you here? And I gotta feeling your one

of those “special” females right?” she said. “Yeah, I

am.” I frown. “The gene is carried by the males in the

family, so my dad passed it to me. We’re not really sure on

what else this gene has provided. You’re the only one I’ve

ever told this to. Do you believe me?” I ask. “Well…..lets

say that I do. Can you tell which one are “were’s” and

which ones are humans?” “Yeah, It’s really easy actually.

The were’s are more…graceful I guess you could say. I’ll

point some out to you when we leave alright?” “Sweet, umm…

Hey you’d let me know if I was dating one right?” She asked

nervously. “Of course I would!!” I replied. Haha of course

that’s what she’d be worried about.

As we leave I point some out to her. “OMG!!! They are

Hott! I would so turn for one of them.” she says

breathlessly. “Really?” I ask. “Yeah! I don’t see why you

wouldn’t.” She replies back immediately. I feel hurt, like

someone had stabbed me in the chest. “Because I would never

get to see any of my friends or family again.” I said

almost crying. “Oh….well if you get turned then I will

too. So you won’t lose everyone.” She says after a minute

of thinking. I just don’t understand why anyone would give

their friends and family up willingly. “No. You won’t. I

won’t let you. It’s giving up too much, you won’t be able

to have kids and and I don’t know what else but it’s just

too much!” I screamed at her. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to

scream at you.” I say after a minute. “It’s ok, I just

don’t want you to be all alone. I understand that if it

happens to you that you don’t want it to happen to anyone

else. But--” I cut her off there “No ands, if’s or but’s.

I said no, and I mean it.” she frowns at me “Okay, I got

it.” she says “Good. Now let’s find my car and go home.”

The parking lot was really full and I couldn’t remember

where I parked the car. We had been shopping for hours and

it was starting to get dark outside. I hate it! I’m never

out when it starts getting dark. “We have to hurry and find

the car.” I say in a panicked tone to Kimmi. “Why?”

Great! There are some in the parking lot. Crap! Crap!

Crap! They are looking at us, damn now they are walking

toward us. “That’s why” I state. “Are they….ya know?” she

whispers. “Yep. Do you see the car?” I say. They were

closing the distance fast. “No. Wait! Yeah it’s over

there” she says pointing behind the guys at my car. Double

damn they were waiting for me. “Hello sweetheart.”

Chapter 3

The guy straight ahead of me says. He’s not too bad

looking; shaggy dark brown hair, a slim tall body, seducing

voice, breathtaking yellow-green eyes. Wait!? Yellow-

green? Yes under all that shaggy hair is yellow-green eyes,

thank to the light I can see them. “Sorry guys. We can’t

stay and chat we have to go home.” I say. My voice was

utterly calm, which is strange. I grab Kimmis hand and go

to leave when he speaks again. “How about you go with us,

and she leaves.” I froze. Then I look at him than say “How

about no.” I pulled Kimmi past him and shoved her toward

the passenger side. I fumbled with the keys finally

unlocking the door. I flip the locks to let Kimmi inside

and hit the locks as soon as her door is shut. It won’t

matter if they want them open of course but I felt safer

with them locked.

I started the engine and slammed the car in reverse, and

stepped on the gas. I almost hit two of them, but oh well

that would be two less to worry about. As I put the car in

drive I swear I heard the one guy say “I’ll see you around

Lexi.” I looked out the windows but they all had

disappeared. “And that’s why I’m never outside my house

this late.” I say trying to make a joke about what just

happened, but she stays quiet. At the stop light I look

over at her. She’s clutching the arm rests like it’s the

only thing that can keep her from floating away. Oh god, it

scared her bad, “Kimmi it’s ok really they’re not after

you.” I tell her. “Yeah I know!! But they’re after you

and that’s not ok.” She says and I didn’t have a reply to

that because she’s right. We drove in complete silence

until I pulled into her driveway. “Are you gonna be alright

driving home?” she asked quietly. I haven’t the slightest

clue whether or not I will be ok, but I’m not gonna tell her

that. She doesn’t need to worry anymore than she already

is. “Yeah, I’ll be just fine.” I replied with a fake smile

on my face. She must have bought my excuse because all she

did was get out of the car and tell me bye. I backed out of

her driveway after she was safely in her house.

The ride home was safer than I thought possible

considering it’s past ten by now. I’ve never had a curfew

before because I spend as little time as possible outside my

house. But I’m sure I’ll hear about it when I get inside.

But all I heard was “Is everything alright?” from my

father. I was kinda shocked so I just nodded my head and

went to my room.

My wonderful comfortable room, with it’s lime green walls

that my mother protested against but like I told her “I’m

going to be sleeping in there not you so I don’t want to

hear about it.” and it worked! Plus my crazy bed that I was

always sitting on doing homework or watching TV. My bed

frame and dressers were the only things in my room that

didn’t match. They matched each other but that’s as far as

it goes. They were old but not as in they were falling

apart just antique. Oh how I begged my mom to let me paint

them or do something to them but no because they were pretty

the way they were. Oh well, changing them now wouldn’t

matter since I have less than a year here anyway you look at

it. I dumped my books on my bed and went into the bathroom

to change my clothes.

The bathroom was kinda plain, the walls were blue but it

had a ocean theme to it. There was a net on the call with

fake plastic fish and a dead sea horse from a vacation in

Florida. The shower curtain was of a underwater wonder land

with fish, sea turtles and dolphins. And the sink was…Well I

loved it!!! It could have had two sinks but I like having

all the extra space. The Mirror was as long as the sink

with big lights above it. And last but not least Mr.

Turtle, who is in a ten gallon tank lookin at me like he

always does. Which is a little creepy when your trying to

pee and he keeps staring at you. After I change my clothes

I head back out but I catch a glimpse of me in the mirror.

I look a mess, my crazy hair that never wants to decide a

color is fluffed out like I just dried it. My makeup is

melting, (which means my eyeliner cause I never liked

wearing foundation) and I looked exhausted. My pale

complexion making the circles under my eyes look darker than

they normally do. And my eyes looked too bright against my

face. They
