“I haven’t seen them and I don’t care because I’d still feel the same way about you” he replied with a wink. I turned away so he would not see me blushing. The only person that has ever flirted with me was Kevin. Nevertheless, that did not count; he was a nerd.
“How do you feel about me?” I asked tentatively while crossing my fingers behind my back.
“I’ll show you,” he whispered. Before I could say anything, he had kissed me softly on the lips.
Chapter 2
I could not think of anything but that kiss. I forgot about the Supremes, my frizzy hair, except for this moment we were having. I felt his hand around my waist and he whispered “Cassie” and continued to kiss me. The only time I have been kissed was in fourth grade and that was because the boy was dared to it. This was real; he actually wanted to kiss me. It was kind of like my first kiss. The kiss in fourth grade did not count because it was enforced by a kid’s dare. The kid had felt penetrated to kiss me because of the dare. Didn’t even realize what that kid was doing until he finally parted away from me, and ran. Vincent slowly parted from me and was smiling from ear to ear and so was I.
“So, that felt good.” He said while trying not to show that he was blushing which he clearly was.
“I know. Me too. I never actually thought you’d be interested in me. I’m like, way out of your league.” I responded back. He rested his hands on my waist while I wrapped my hands on his waist while laying my head on perfected chest.
“You’re just the right person for me and I know it.” He said while looking down at me. He then lifted my chin and gave me a kiss on the lips the returned to talking again.
“You bring yourself down to much sweetheart. You’re beautiful and it doesn’t matter what those girls think you are or not.” He said while squeezing me softly around my waist. “Besides, they’re probably jealous of you being so pretty. And for smelling like fresh strawberries. Mmm. Smells awesome.” He added on while smelling my neck. It rather tickled so I playfully shoved him away. You know how in some stories the couple just walks away romantically and another paragraph starts. Right? Right. Then, there are those books when in the middle of their moment, someone has the audacity to come up and ruin it. Well that was us. Amanda and her small Supremes looked well, shocked. Amanda’s mouth was hanging open, and Jennifer crossed her arms furiously. The others obviously didn’t know what was going on so they were constantly looking back and forth at Vincent, I, and their clique. I just looked at her with my arms still around him. Vincent had no clue of what was going on. Amanda flipped her hair back and started to speak.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t Cassie. Is that what you do now? Telling new guys that you are a sorry loser and make them feel sorry for you? Good job, it works,” she said sarcastically while clapping her hands. The other girls snickered. I breathed in and out and slowly separated from Vincent and looked at her straight in the eye.
“For your info, I don’t make them feel sorry for me, they just like red heads. Hot and spicy unlike blondes which are light, pale, and meaningless. You would know.” I replied while flashing a fake toothy smile. The other girls went ohh and Cara coughed, “ahem-, slayed,-ahem.” Amanda gave her a cold stare and Cara looked away.
“You think you’re funny Lauden, well you’re not. You’re ugly and no boy in their right mind would ever want to be with you.” She snapped. That’s when Vincent looks at her and starts talking.
“You have no right to be calling anybody ugly. Plus, I’m with her so what does that makes me, crazy? Well you know what you are? You’re immature. You’re just mad because blondes are becoming so dim and you’re the only one who thinks they’re cool.” He said. Amanda’s cheeks were flushed with a deep shade of red. Jennifer snickered and turned away to laugh. I smiled up at Vincent and Vincent smiled back. He then whispered,” I’m guessing those were the Supremes.” He said while trying to hold in his laughter.
“Yeah!” I said while laughing. Vincent also joined. Amanda looked flushed and almost on the verge of tears.
“We’re leaving girls. Let’s go Jennifer!” Amanda commanded. The group turned around and walked away. I smiled at Vincent for a moment then laughed to myself. It seems as if things just got better.
As soon as I got home, I started squealing everywhere picked up the phone to call my best friend, Violet. Violet was out that day of school because she had to go see her sister perform in some fancy school of the arts. She was bound to be back around three so I called her.
“Yes?”
“Violet?”
“Nah for real! What’s up?”
“Everything Vi! Today I found this new boy at school named Vincent and guess what? We kissed and now we are dating! Can you believe this?”
“First of all, no, and second, when did he come to the school?”
“I’m guessing today because I’ve never seen him before. He is so gorgeous V! I can’t wait till you see him tomorrow!” I exclaimed while jumping on my bed. My lavender pillow fell under my head so I slipped and knocked my head on the floor. I was just bursting with joy. My first boyfriend!
“I guess. Hey, come shopping with me tomorrow.”
“Oh, I can’t. I got homework.” I answered back to Violet disapprovingly. Then I thought about the fact that I have boyfriend. I am supposed to look beautiful. It’s practically a law. Homework can wait.
“I mean, yeah. Also let’s go to the hair salon. I want to tame this hair.” I answered.
“Cool. What’s wrong with your hair?”
“What’s wrong? Violet, my hair is a burnt forest. Plus, I have to look good for Vincent.” I answered logically.
“Seriously? I guess, again. So, the mall then the salon, and where else?” Violet asked annoyingly. I could tell that there was a hint of jealousy in her voice. Ever since Violet’s ex-boyfriend, Evan dumped her for Charlotte, the trust fund kid, Violet has been staying away from boys like an obese woman from sugar. It’s been three weeks and Violet has been flying solo. Plus, to see me with a new boyfriend, rather sucks.
“We can watch Casablanca and eat Moose Munch bars, Haribo Gummy bears, and drink RC Cola. Whatadaya think?” I asked.
“Awesome. And let’s do each other’s nails and during that time, you can tell me all about your new boo.” Violet said with a twinge of excitement in her voice. I was so glad she didn’t make a big deal about me having a boyfriend. Violet was the best friend of the year. We said bye and hanged up. I then jumped off my bed and called my hairdresser. My hairdresser was Adalia Cortez. I called her Addy because I don’t feel like pronouncing Adalia She hairdresser was from Spain, which made speaking to her a bit harder because she rather forgot if I don’t speak Spanish.
“Hola. Como estas?”
“Hey. I was wondering if you could come over and straighten my hair a little bit. I know I have not asked you to my hair in like years, but I need you now. Please?” I pleaded.
“Well your parents always pay me money so I never worry about not making money you know. So, whenever you want, I give you nice treatment.” She answered back with a thick Spanish accent.
“Can you come like right now?”
“Of course. I do any tang fo you. Okay?”
“Okay, that’s great. We will do it in one of the guestrooms, all right.”
“Si.”
“Bye Addy!” I said.
“! Hasta luego!” she said back. I let her hang up first then I hung up. I knew that looking through my closet wouldn’t do anything so I went to my sister’s closet, Elizabeth. We were the exact same size so it wouldn’t have been a problem. The house was large and my sister’s room was two rooms away. Her room was very spacious and comfortable. Her room was vanilla cream that rather contrasted the colors a bit. She had a carpet that was blue, green and white and her bed was the same colors. In fact, everything around the whole room seemed to be blue, green, and white. Even the enlarged photo of her Chinese foo dog, Jedi, had the blue ocean in the background surrounded my green palm trees from their trip to Hawaii last summer. Elizabeth was sitting in her desk going on her laptop when I came in. Elizabeth sister was what you called a golden girl. We looked nothing alike. She had straight cinnamon brown hair and a golden tanned skin. She had long arms and slender legs from running all the time and from cheerleading. I on the other hand was very pale and I couldn’t even think about tanning because I would be sunburned and peel like an orange. I also had a wildly curly frizzy hair that could not stand down for one second. The only time that I had straightened, it was for fifth grade graduation and that was all. It took too long to straighten it so I just left it. Another thing that made my sister and me so different from each other was that she was a clean freak. I couldn’t keep my room in order even if you paid me. My room wasn’t a complete mess but it wasn’t clean either. My room was a little old fashioned with the wooden desks and cabinets but still looked nice though. The house keeper, Louisa did a good job at keeping my room neat and tidy so it was rarely messy. Elizabeth had her in a ponytail that looked so cute. When I do my hair like that, the ponytail is just weird. Elizabeth turned around from her laptop.
“What do you want?” she said.
“Hey don’t get rude Liza. I’m just coming here to ask you for a favor.” I told her with a hushed tone. She gave me a look that said are you serious. I gave her back a look that said serious as leukemia.
“What do you want red head?” Liza asked with an irritated tone. She must be reading one of those online books. She was always the book freak.
“I am going shopping with Violet tomorrow and before that I wanted to borrow some of your clothes. You know, a since you have such a terrific taste in clothes unlike me.” I replied to her giving her my sweet look. She always fell for it. One of characteristics that didn’t make me look like a freaky red head. She looked at me and sighed. She got up from her chair and walked towards her closet. Her closet was a walk-in and it was filled. Her closet was dullish blue and it had clothes everywhere I guess that was one place that wasn’t neat. At the end of her closet was her Romanian style bathroom with beige granite tiles and the long cream-colored poles on each side of the bathtub with an ancient chandelier the same color as the tiles. On the other side of the bathtub was the three-headed shower. Her shower was separated from the tub. My bathroom was sky blue with white edges, one sink, and a shower with the tub. Anyways, being carried away, Elizabeth led me towards the main closet and searched for
