had fought my way out of that situation and destroyed their secret weapon. Maybe they had another one, maybe they didn’t. Either way, now that I knew what to watch for, I would be more careful going forward, and fighting pirates would be easier than fighting puppies — assuming my rings continued working.

But that dragon?

No way.

Uh uh.

Rings or no rings, that dragon had my number. He could punch my ticket any time he wanted. Me against him was like being a flyweight fighter stepping into the ring with a super heavyweight. Total joke. Everybody knew who was going to win and it wasn’t the little guy.

What wasn’t a joke was that dragon. The odd thing was, why hadn’t he finished me off when he had the chance?

I had no idea. Maybe I could ask him tomorrow when he came to kill me.

“Control to Crown! Ursa here! Are you there, my king? Out!” Her worried voice came over my power armor comms.

“Crown here,” I sighed pathetically.

“Transports have arrived in your vicinity, my king. They’re ready for pickup.”

For the first time since I’d put this True Ring on my finger, I didn’t feel like a king. I felt like a fraud. I mumbled, “Are you tracking my position? Out.”

“Yes, my king. Is everything okay? You sound…” She didn’t finish her thought.

“Yeah. Fine,” I lied, not wanting to go into it. “What’s my position, if you don’t mind?”

“You’re quite a ways from your last position. What happened, my king?”

“Long story. I have no idea where I am or where I left Captain Theia and the others. Can you give me coordinates or a map to their location?”

“Yes, my king. I’ll send them over now.”

“Great, thanks,” I said absently.

I realized at that moment I’d reached my limit.

For whatever reason, I’d had it.

It was one thing to die over and over in a video game as you ground your way to glory and godhood. Losing in a video game had no consequences other than temporary frustration and the time it took to get back to wherever you left off. Unless you were a professional gamer, but even then, losing a tournament, losing out on a huge first place purse only meant you had to try again next year, or give up eSports to go code for somebody. Or better yet, build a freaking functional exosuit with the boys at Rolbotics, paid for by DARPA and sold to the US Military where your countless hours of hard work and engineering inventiveness could do some good.

But I was here.

On Zalaxia.

Losing here meant I would die. End of story, die. No more Tim Pittwell. No more endless leveling up.

Going out in a blaze of glory sounded good on paper, but I’d been blazing for the past five days nonstop. I couldn’t take any more blazing. Going back to a relatively quiet life working at Rolbotics sounded like a fantastic idea. Paradise compared to this.

That settled it.

I was done with Harem Planet.

As soon as I got back to the outpost, I was leaving Zalaxia. I would take the king’s Golden Galleon — assuming it had Fold Drive — and head back to Earth, with or without the Bombshells.

I couldn’t do this any more.

I was done.

—: Chapter 119 :—

Following the map Ursa sent, I used my power armor thrusters to fly me to Captain Theia’s position to await the flying troop transports. It was a quick journey back to the Cage Root grove. The women were still naked and injured. Some of them tended to their wounded sisters, others kept watch, holding their bolt rifles like clubs, or holding improvised spears made from broken-off branches. Others held rocks for throwing, standing near a small pile of river rocks they had collected.

“My king!” Theia gasped when she saw me touch down on the ground. She came jogging over. “Permission to touch your Royal Person?” Her arms were half-raised in preparation for a hug.

“Sure,” I said and hugged her naked body half-heartedly, being careful of her wounds. She was still half-covered in large, smeared patches of mostly drying blood, with the worst wounds still seeping.

“How did it go?” she smiled hopefully. “Did you find their weapon?”

“Yeah. It’s gone,” I said flatly.

Theia’s smile folded into a frown. “Is something wrong, my king?”

“No,” I lied. “Air Guard should be here any minute. I already called Control.”

“Not a moment too soon.”

“Yeah.”

“What’s wrong, my king?”

“Nothing,” I grunted. Going home with your tail between your legs was never something you felt like sharing if you didn’t have to.

“Something is wrong,” she said with caring concern.

“Can we not talk about it?” I scowled. “Focus on getting everyone safely back to the outpost? Please?”

“Yes, my king,” Theia nodded respectfully.

First Lieutenant Mira arrived minutes later with a squadron of Dragonfires and two medium-sized troop transports hovering above the Cage Root grove. There wasn’t enough flat ground for them to land. While the transports hovered, their crew lowered ladders but I used my rings to POSITION-vector everyone easily into the transports.

Once we were safely on board, we started the short trip back to the outpost.

I rode in the same transport as Captain Theia and half the Shock Knights. Their rings had yet to reboot like mine had, leaving them all completely naked. No one seemed to notice because naked was the Shock Knights’ general state of dress anyway. Not wanting to think about the beautiful women who would no longer be a part of my life by this time tomorrow, I sat in one of the jump seats at the back end of the transport by myself.

Captain Theia walked down the cramped aisle toward me and said, “May I sit next to you, my king? Or would you like some space?”

“Do whatever,” I sighed, not looking at her.

“I’ll sit with you.” Theia eased herself into the jump seat beside mine with a pained wince. She was still cut up and bloody from battle.

“You okay?” I asked guardedly.

“I’ll be fine,” she said.

“I can fix your injuries if you want.”

“I’m honored my
