want you to stop.’ She wanted this more than she’d ever wanted anything. More than an ache. More than desperation. She shivered as that trust surged and the truth escaped. ‘I just want you. As amazingly out of control as I feel.’

Something flared in his eyes. A satisfaction. A hunger. But then restraint swept in and his jaw clenched. ‘Later.’

‘Now.’ A whispered, heartfelt command.

He stared into her eyes and she saw then his internal, then physical shift. Instinctively, she slid her legs further apart as he pressed close. She was so focused on him she forgot everything but what was happening in this moment. Ash with her. Ash holding her. Ash sliding inside her, finding his way into her tight-held confidence. He moved slowly, but with a heated strength and a powerful surety that made her shiver even as she welcomed his penetration. It was shockingly real, shockingly good as he gently rocked into her.

‘Oh,’ she groaned. She could hardly breathe. Hardly believe.

‘Okay?’ he muttered through clenched teeth. ‘You need me to go slower?’

She shook her head and drew in a shuddering breath at the pleasure-pain, the overwhelming sensation, of his first possession. ‘Don’t stop.’

She wanted this. She liked this—she had the dawning feeling she was about to love this.

She sighed as he pushed deeper still, then ebbed, allowing her a chance to breathe. To adjust. And then he slowly pressed again—pushing closer to her. He smiled as she gasped again at the pure sensation. All she could do was curl around him, her hands sliding across his muscular back to find purchase and hold him closer still.

‘Ash...’ It was so sensational, she was so enraptured, she’d lost her speech.

His gorgeous smile quirked. ‘Too gentle?’

It was a blissful, sweet torture. She wanted it exactly the same, yet he was right. She wanted a touch more. So gentle, so fierce, she felt so full. Somehow he worked his hand between them, teasing her to slipperiness to ease his occupation. Patience and confidence in his touch, in his relentless, claiming rhythm. It overpowered her again—sudden and hard. She convulsed in spasms of pleasure as the orgasm smashed through her. He growled as she came apart. She clutched him passionately, the fierce power and strength of her own body a surprise as she clamped about him, locking him inside her.

‘Merle...’ he breathed rawly, almost a warning.

Pressed deep into the mattress by his strong body, she was breathless, almost broken, floating on a current of bliss even as aftershocks made her tremble. Yet he still hadn’t had his release. The breathlessness she’d sensed in him before was under control now. Why was he so in control? Didn’t he want to finish? Doubts rivered through her even as she felt the hard hunger of him still inside.

‘Isn’t this good for you?’ she asked. She had to ask now. ‘Ash—’

‘Don’t worry about me.’ He rested his forehead on hers briefly, his eyes looming close but still so alert. Then a smile tore through his tense expression. ‘Demanding woman, aren’t you?’

‘I just want you,’ she said.

He was powerful and strong and she wanted him to be entirely hers. The way she’d just been his. He was so controlled—too controlled. But at her words that glint lit in his eyes. He lifted his head and pulled his hips back, only to surge close again—anchoring himself deep within her. Impossibly, excitement flowed again, firing her lax muscles into anticipation. Into movement. She rocked beneath him, provoking another fierce thrust from him. She held his gaze—proud, uninhibited. He was in her, with her, and he would give her what she wanted. Himself. That delicious sensation arrowed from her core out to every extremity, curling her muscles in the tight torture of bliss.

‘Ash.’ She could barely think of her words. ‘I want you...’

She didn’t know what to do with herself. She was so unprepared for the emotions tumbling through her. And he knew. In the triumph that flashed just before his self-control crumbled she saw his satisfaction. But then he moved—faster, harder, finally out of control, and his grip was tight and his intensity ferocious. His breath came short and quick to match hers as he thrust deeper and harder. And she loved it. She absolutely, hungrily, desperately loved it. She moaned, unrestrained, her response flying full and free, and she revelled as he groaned in reply. He talked, then, in a low growl, expressing the desire, the pleasure, the want, the sheer celebration of finally being right here. Like this. With her. In her. Again and again and again.

The words, the action, the kiss, the carnal completion pushed her to a place she’d never imagined. To a place where time stilled and sensation soared. She arched in a moment of sensual agony. And then devastatingly fierce fireworks exploded from the centre of her body, cascading in blinding brilliance. She screamed as she shook and then tears tumbled as the sensations overtook everything. She was torn to pieces by pure pleasure.

He cried out too. Growling her name with a desperate moan as he lost control in her arms.

But he didn’t let her go. He held her. He stroked her hair back from her face, brushed away the few tears that she couldn’t stop. They were of pleasure and wonder, gratitude and, okay, yes, with a whisper of sadness. Of not having known for so long that life could and should include this.

He kissed her gently as she slowly calmed. He caressed her carefully until the oversensitivity of her skin was soothed and she accepted the extent to which she’d just been irrevocably altered. Not just by having sex, but also by the joy of having someone treat her with passion and tenderness and with utter focus on her needs. Of being gifted an experience so profoundly intimate and pleasurable. One she would never regret, never forget.

And then he did it to her all over again.

CHAPTER SEVEN

‘DO YOU NEVER sleep in?’

Ash chuckled at Merle’s drowsy question as he set a coffee
