"Good morning, Miss Acosta. How elegant you are today!" said my secretary smiling with my coffee in her hands.
I had to admit that the girl learned quickly and did everything in order not to make me miss my intern whom I actually missed a little. Ingrid knew how I liked coffee, understood my work process and adapted herself perfectly, like a chameleon in a dangerous situation.
"Thanks, Ingrid. Do you already have the reports I requested yesterday?"
"I'm working on it. I'll bring them to you in an hour. Do you need anything else?"
"No, except for one more of these or I doubt I'll stay awake for the rest of the day," I said pointing to the coffee and then taking a sip.
"I don't think it will be necessary. I will offer it to Miss Acosta, if she allows herself a coffee break."
That voice, that angelic voice! I turned my gaze away from Ingrid and saw him there by the door, wearing a fantastic gray suit that fit him like a glove. He had the same confident smile on his face.
"Would you leave us alone for a moment, Ingrid?" I asked smiling to my secretary who left with a nod. "I don’t think I have any time in my planner for a coffee break with you, Mr. Devoir," I said ironically.
"Really?" he approached and put his hands on my desk without taking his eyes off me. "I am almost convinced that you do. Why don't you double check?"
Playing his game, I opened my planner, leafed through that Thursday's page where I saw only various notes about work issues and the time that each of them would take.
"Apparently, your name isn't here," I said amused.
"Here it is!" he said pointing to a part of the page where it did not appear. "It seems to me that you are working in these hours and, as we both know, I am your boss."
"Are you saying that I can't refuse, boss?" I asked, stressing the last word.
"Exactly. There are also several aspects we need to talk about," he replied showing me his toothy smile and making me laugh at his extravagant gimmicks.
What aspects? What was he referring to?
"Do we have anything to talk about, Mr. Devoir?" I asked looking at those lips that I wanted to kiss greedily.
"Yes," he confirmed without revealing what it was.
"And what time should I be in the cafeteria?" I asked him trying not to show that I was thrilled.
"Don't worry, I'll come and pick you up," he replied recovering the erect position. He then turned around and left my office. "By the way, you are extremely attractive today. Maybe I should let all the staff know that you are my fiancée before anyone can ask you out." After saying those words he closed the door leaving me with my mouth open.
What? His fiancée? Let the staff know? It was probably just one of his jokes, the result of weekend reminiscences. Yes, it had to be. But those words didn't stop whirling in my head for the next three hours. At a quarter past eleven someone knocked at the door and a few instants later I could admire again those dark brown eyes looking at me intently.
"I thought you forgot about me," I said smiling as I got up and took my bag to leave the office.
"Forget about you?" he whispered observing every curve of my body. "It's the last thing I could do."
I bit my lip and instinctively tucked my hair back behind my ears. I could only think of a thousand ways of undressing him to admire his body without lingering. As I was at his side, I smelled his masculine fragrance whose memory stayed with me all week long and which I had missed terribly. My God, everything was so fucking wrong! How the hell could I have succumbed to such an extent in just one weekend?
The cafeteria was half empty, since most of the employees had coffee on each floor. The cafeteria was used with potential clients or for informal meetings or, as in this case, for clandestine appointments disguised as business meetings.
"How did this week go? I have been quite busy because of some last-minute unforeseen events which I had to personally take care of and I hardly came to the office."
"Don't worry, everything went well. Did something serious happen?" I asked taking a sip of coffee, too hot for my taste.
"Nothing to worry about," he said without giving too much importance. "The concert is at eight tonight. Do you want me to come and pick you up?" he asked staring at the tabletop as if he were studying a strategy to apply.
"Actually, I don't need to go home and we should be at the concert at least an hour before. I thought of going directly there after work."
"Perfect! Then you'll come with me because first I have to leave some documents at home. Then we'll go to the concert, okay?"
"Why do I get the feeling that you are so kind just because you are going to ask me for some favours later?" I asked directly since I had a nose for these things.
"You can't be fooled, can you?" he said in a low voice with a smile.
"I actually can, but it seems that you are not very good at."
"Maybe, just maybe, I'll need to ask you a little favour, a simple one," he admitted, staring at me with those overwhelming eyes to which I couldn't refuse anything.
"Sure, simple," I underlined thinking that it would most likely be huge, gigantic, monumental.
"My mother thought it was a good idea to call Michael on Monday to congratulate him after having learnt about my presence at the wedding in Scotland," Damian began
