âWhat doyou say to another round?â He leaned down and he flicked at hernipple, teasing it and making her curl her toes. âI missedeight oâclock conditioning, so we got time to play.â
Did he sayeight oâclock? Catching him unaware, Celeste flipped onto herbelly to look at the clock on her vanity. Seeing the tiny hand onthe number ten doused her raging libido like a bucket of ice water.
Unaware of hersudden change in mood, Shane growled. âA provocative position.âHe nipped her shoulder and Celeste almost lost sight of herpriorities.
âIâmgoing to be late.â Celeste bucked her hips, but he didnâtbudge. âIâm going to be late,â she repeated. Thistime her voice had taken on a sense of urgency. Still, Shane ignoredher. He was too busy kissing a hot path down her spine. Celestesucked in a calming breath. His mouth was wreaking havoc on herstamina.
âStâŠstop,Shane,â she pleaded, while trying to squirm away from him.
âBut whatabout all the wicked things I want to do to you?â
He gave her anexample by slipping his fingers between her legs. He stroked her sexand she heard herself moan. He found the little bud at the top ofher mound took it between his fingers and squeezed it gently. Celesteâs breathing came in short, harsh gasps.
Oh, but he wasbeing a wicked beast. He seemed to know exactly how to arouse awomanâs body to the point she lost her better judgment anddidnât care about the consequences.
âIc-canât,â she panted. âI have rehearsals in an houratâŠat the Roseland ballroom.â
Two of hisfingers dipped into her core. Celeste squeezed her eyes shut as ashudder rocked her frame. âHow about I sweeten the deal and payyou a weekâs wages.â
As if the twothick fingers sliding in and out of her wasnât enough!Incredulous, Celeste rose up on her elbows. âA weekâsworth wages?â
âA weekâsworth.â
âAnd allI have to do is stay in this bed with you all day?â
Chuckling,Shane kissed the rise of her buttocks. âWell, not all day. Istill got conditioning this afternoon.â
So it was finefor her to drop everything, but not him! Spots of red almost blindedher. If he thought he was going to have his cake and eat it too, hewas sadly mistaken.
Celestecouldnât, she wouldnât take the bait. There was more atstake here than just money. Biting down hard on her bottom lip, shefought to regain some clarity.
âSo,absolutely no conditioning at all today?â she choked around theknot of anger stuck in her throat.
âOfcourse not,â he scoffed. âI have a fight in a couple ofweeks.â
With moreresilience than she felt, Celeste said: âI have rehearsals inan hour, so if youâd pleaseâŠâ
âNo,âhe said matter-of-fact and unaware the tables had reversed. âYouâregoing to stay in this bed with me all morning.â
Even though shefelt anything but cheerful, Celeste curved her lips in a false smileas she looked back at him. âAnd what do you plan on doing tome?â she asked, hoping he wouldnât see through hersaccharin sweet performance. For good measure, she batted her lashesat him.
âIâmgonna pin your hands over your head like this,â he said doingjust that, âthen Iâm gonna take you on your knees.â
Celestegroaned. The thought of him dominating her, created a wave ofsensation that rolled over her, settled in her core, and then zingedoutward plucking all of her nerve endings.
Still, shemaintained her focus. âWhat did you say?â she asked, fighting her way out of the erotic haze heâd induced.
Falling intoher trap, Shane leaned down and repeated it in her ear. He barelyspoke two words when she let her arm fly, connecting with flesh andbone. Not caring if she split his lip or broke his nose, Celestewiggled from underneath him.
Before shecould clear the bed, Shane grabbed her ankle, impeding her escape.âWhat you do that for?â
âSometimes, you have to slap someone to get their attention.â
âYoupunched me,â he said, wiggling his nose.
âPunchedâŠslappedâŠitâsall relative.â Celeste kicked back at him and he let her go. In one quick move, she tumbled from the bed.
âThisisnât going to work,â she said, jabbing her arms into oneof her dressing robes. âI thought it would, but weârejust all wrong.â
Celeste avoidedlooking at him while she scavenged his garments from the bedroomfloor and then dumped them on the mattress.
Even when shepivoted toward the bathroom, she remained resolved, refusing to evenmake eye contact.
While sheturned on the bath water, she heard the bed springs squeak and thenshe felt him at the doorway. Tiny pricks of anticipation ran downher spine as she imagined him getting dressed. What then? Would herail at her? Or simply walk out the door and never look back.
Although notentirely unaccustomed to a man walking out on her, Celeste couldnâtignore the fact that his absence hit her like a sucker punch belowthe belt. It would serve her right! She mused. Sheâd basicallypushed him out the door.
Blinkingback tears, she reached to turn on the bath water, but suddenlyrealized she wasnât alone. Disconcerted, she glanced over hershoulder and found him leaning against the doorframe. Although stillheavy lidded with sleep, his eyes seemed to bore into her as iftrying to pick through the layers to the truth. Unsettled, Celestelooked away.
With an innercalm she didnât feel, Celeste picked up a bottle of Epsom saltsfrom the shelf above her bath, popped the cork and poured some in herbath water.
âIf youdonât mind, Iâd like to take a bath before I leave.â
âGo rightahead cause I ainât leaving,â he said, while slowlybuttoning his trousers.
Celeste hatedthe fact that his words made her feel strangely delirious. Still, she refused to give him any quarter. âWhat if I asked youpolitely?â
Shane shook hishead. âYouâre a good time girl. âIâm trouble, you said. Iâm no good, you said. But all I see is a coward.â
Celeste openedher mouth to lay waste to his assumption, but she choked. Sheâdbeen a fairly decent liar in the past. With him, sheâdsuddenly become woefully inept.
Why was it sodifficult to open to another person? All she
