toward Quelin and spit her sticky webbing. The vulpine grinned, showing his teeth before diving to the side, avoiding the webs. The spider hissed in fury before she turned back to Rag. Ragnarok stepped forward and bashed his shield into her chest where the burn mark now was. She shrieked in fury as the carapace cracked and green fluid leaked from the wound.

Black Widow attacked again, and Rag was ready for her. The two swipes glanced off of the shield and he dropped to block the kick but was too slow. Her sweeping leg caught him in the ankle and knocked him to the ground. With a look of pure malice, she leaped into the air. Knowing what was coming, Atlas charged forward.

There was no way he could grab the warrior and drag him out of the way, so he kneeled as low as he could and held his staff directly upright. The spider came down and Atlas saw her look of maliciousness morph to one of horror. Her body hit the staff with enough force that the blunt object punched into her stomach and fluid leaked from her body. Her outstretched legs twitched as she whimpered in pain.

With a heave, Atlas tipped the staff over, and she rolled to the ground. Before he could move, two more arrows and another fire spell hit her. Her moan of pain slowly gurgled away, and she died, her legs curling into a tight ball around her torso.

You dealt 30 HP damage to Black Widow for countering her special ability.

Black Widow died.

“Awesome work, guys.” Atlas said as he reached down and helped Ragnarok back to his feet.

“Holy shit, man. Thanks for saving my ass. I thought I would end up as a shish kebab.”

“Don’t worry about it. We need the entire team alive to win this thing. It also looks bad on me as a healer if a team member dies,” Atlas told him with a smile.

Quelin reached down and grabbed the loot from the boss. It was only a few minutes before the box he expected popped up.

Item - Venomstrike

Requirements: Level 6

Rarity: Uncommon

Quality: Good

Attack: 2

Magical Attack: 3

Durability: 85/85

Weight: 1.5 lbs.

Slot: 1H Weapon

Traits: A wooden wand infused with the power of spider venom. Spells cast using this wand can infect the enemy and cause 1 HP damage every 3 seconds.

“That thing is fantastic. The Magical bonus is nice, but the effect is definitely for a damage dealer. Looks like today is your lucky day, Quelin,” Atlas said with a hint of jealousy in his voice.

He selected Greed, and in a few moments the game confirmed the outcome.

Quelin won the Need roll for Venomstrike!

The vulpine quickly equipped the wand and a sleek wood object appeared in his hand. The wood was a dark tone, and it looked like dark green spider webs made up its grain. The end of the wand feathered out and looked like a bundle of spider webs.

You gained 200 experience for killing a target in The Wild Hunt.

Atlas checked his experience, and it confused him. He had to look back and figured out why. They’d gained another 200 experience from their fellow group killing Swiftfoot. It happened when he was doing all the crafting and he must’ve skimmed past it.

Party Chat

Atlas: Black Widow down. Headed to the Umbral Shadow.

PrettyPrincess: Can’t talk, fighting the Yote. Will meet you at Umbral.

Atlas healed up the minor damage Ragnarok had, and they headed for the zone with the Umbral Shadow in it. This monster was one that Atlas didn’t know what to expect. His fear told him it would be a shadow monster. If that was the case, it would be difficult to defeat the thing. This idea gradually faded as he remembered the teams it placed them in. Some of them didn’t have many casters assigned. If the Umbral was a creature that could only be damaged by magic, it would be a drastic disadvantage for many of the groups and make the event unfair.

They continued through the thickly wooded area before Atlas noticed a dark shadow in the trees. He lifted his hand and quietly whispered to the party, “There’s something in the trees up ahead.”

The group sat still and watched the area that Atlas indicated. They waited in silence until the shadow finally moved. It walked to the side until it passed through a beam of sunlight breaking through the trees. The group saw what they faced in the Umbral Shadow.

A large cat, fur the color of void blackness with swirls of purple, stalked through the trees. It had teeth on the front reminiscent of a saber-tooth tiger.

“Damn,” Ragnarok whispered, “Cats are tough to hunt in a forest.”

“I’m more worried about fighting him in such a dark space. I have a feeling this thick forest helps hide him in the shadows of the trees exceptionally well,” grumbled Gemma.

“Any ideas?” Atlas asked.

“May have to wait for the rest of the group. This one could be far more dangerous than the others.” Ragnarok conceded.

Party Chat

Atlas: Found the Umbral Shadow. How far out are you? This thing is a stalking saber-tooth cat.

JamminGirl: The Yote is dead… now. We’ll head your way as fast as we can. Hold tight and we can take him out as a group.

You gained 200 experience for killing a target in The Wild Hunt.

Success! You’ve reached Level 9.

Atlas dumped one point from his level into Constitution and one into Intellect, bringing his health to 110 and his mana to 120.

For getting 10 attribute points in Intellect, you have unlocked a bonus. All your spells base power increase by 2.

Well, that’s amazing. Hopefully all the attributes offer bonuses. They hunkered down in the shadows of a tree until a noise caused them to perk up. Clomping of footsteps echoed through the forest and voices joined them. They weren’t headed for them but were heading toward the Umbral Shadow.

“We are close to done guys. After we kill this flimsy shadow, we only have the Yote left. I doubt it’ll
