Never was he so indecisive about making a decision in his life. He felt torn in so many directions that he didn't know which way to go. No matter what direction he chose there would be sacrifice. If he chose one of the other Shanees he would sacrifice his happiness and for a Kahoali that was no small thing. If he chose Sari, he would risk banishment for them both if discovered. He knew that despite Sari's reassurance that she wouldn't suffer consequences. Nothing she could do to change the Queen's mind from such a punishment for either of them. If he chose the girl, he would be banished of that he was convinced. From every angle, he couldn't see a solution to benefit all involved. There would be sacrifice no matter which choice he made.
He lay back down, closed his eyes and begged the Universe for a sign. There must be a way to keep the girl close and remain among his people without being bonded to a mate he didn't want. He just couldn't see a solution. He couldn't accept the choices he could see as the only solutions. There must be another way. He needed balance to see it or so he told himself.
He knew the Universe would give him a sign or it wouldn't. Either way he needed rest. For a moment, he considered returning to his hut. He didn't want to give up the peace of Crystal Lake. He could sleep at Crystal Lake as much as he would his own hut. Maybe a solution would present itself with the rays of a new day. He slowed his breathing and tried to empty his mind of his troubling thoughts. There must be a solution that he could live with, he just needed peace enough to think of it. He let out a deep breath and quieted his mind. Rest. A solution would present itself in time.
Chapter Ten
Kaily woke with sweat trickling down her back and a profound throbbing between her legs. The dream was far more intense, for lack of a better word, than past dreams. It wasn't the first time that she woke aroused from her dreams about her dark warrior, but not like this. Her arousal was more extreme than she ever experienced. She would have touched herself to give some release if she thought it would help. She knew it wouldn't. The few times she tried to alleviate her aroused state did nothing. Instead, it left her more aroused and more frustrated, and that was when she didn't know that her dark warrior was a real, flesh and blood man.
She stood and looked around her hut. It amazed her how the moment she woke and started moving that a soft glow would light the interior of the hut. At first, she thought it was light streaming in from the openings at the top where the wall and ceiling met. She discovered that even at night light appeared to originate from the openings. She couldn't discern the source of the light. There wasn't any kind of electricity or light fixture she recognized. She knew there must be some kind of logical explanation. Although after seeing what Shimani could do, there was no telling what the explanation would be. If logic existed there. There was more to the Kahoali people than her first impression. They were not as primitive as she first thought.
She turned in a circle, not sure what she was looking for. The space felt too oppressing. Despite the coolness of the interior, she felt too hot, and too confined. She took off her sleeping slip and replaced it with the dress she wore to the evening repast. It was the closest thing at hand. She didn't have patience to put more thought into it. The daily dresses were a lighter material and a bit shorter than the evening repast dress. She didn't think it would matter. Nothing would calm the heat she felt, at least, nothing that she could do for herself.
She stepped outside and looked around. It was still dark out, but not as dark as she expected. She thought it was just coming up to the early hours before predawn. She started to take a step in the direction of the training area she found Shimani and her dark warrior the morning before but stopped mid-step. She wanted to see her dark warrior in the flesh, to touch him, to get answers from him, to get something else from him. She was not positive what that something else was that she wanted from him. She needed answers. There was more she wanted from him that she couldn't put to words. She was afraid to put to words.
It was apparent at the evening repast he didn't have time for her. Still, she couldn't stop herself from wanting to be near him. She closed her mind to the pain that sprang from the memory of how he ignored her. His treatment of her took her by surprise. It was not what she expected after
