“Seriously?” she asked but had a smile on her face.
I smirked. “We do have to make up for some lost time. Also, you’re right. Using my hand just isn’t the same thing.”
She laughed, but then I had her on her back again and moaning my name while I spent some much needed time with my head between her legs. I ached for this woman and was hungry to please her. It was especially nice when she returned the favor without me having to ask. Damn, if I hadn’t already married her, I probably would have said she was wife material.
Fi laid her head on my chest again, and I pulled my arm around her to hold her tight against me. A sheen of sweat covered both of us from our recent activities, but neither of us was complaining. Being on the road for half the year could be tough, but I didn’t realize how tough until I married my best friend and she came to live with me. It swelled my heart to know that she had missed me as much as I missed her, and I wondered if maybe, just maybe, she was falling in love with me too. Lying here naked in bed with her and holding her against me was the best feeling in the world.
I flinched a little when I felt her small hand trace the lines of the red-gold phoenix tattoo on my forearm. She looked up at me with a cheeky smile. “Sorry.”
I smiled down at her and kissed the top of her vibrant red hair. “It tickles,” I admitted.
“I always loved this tattoo.”
I stroked her hair and closed my eyes. “Remember how nervous I was when I got it?”
I felt her laugh on my chest. “Didn’t Stacey break up with you because of it?”
“Don’t remind me,” I groaned. “Why did you ever let me go out with her?”
“I thought you liked her!”
I sighed. “I was a kid, and she was hot, but her personality not so much. I wish—” But I couldn’t finish my thought because I heard something vibrating on the floor where I had discarded my pants. “Shit!”
Fi moved from off my chest with a look of concern in her eyes. “What’s wrong?”
I reluctantly glided out of bed and started rushing around to get dressed again. “I was supposed to meet my agent,” I explained. I picked up my phone and saw all the missed calls. Steve was going to kill me, especially since it was so not like me to be late for a meeting.
“Oh my God, you’re never late for anything in your life, ever. I’m sorry.”
I tucked my shirt into my pants and walked back over to the bed, where she was now sitting up against the headboard but had the sheet wrapped around her chest. That amused me because I just had my mouth all over her body. I leaned down and kissed her goodbye.
“Sorry, I really have to go.”
She waved me off. “Go on. I feel bad I made you late.”
I smirked. “I’ll tell my agent I was too busy eating out my wife to be on time for the meeting.”
Her eyes widened. “Riley! Don’t you dare!”
I laughed. “I’m just kidding.” I tilted her chin up and kissed her again one last time before booking it out of there. I pulled my cell out and called Steve back while I rushed down to my SUV in the parking garage.
“Riley!” he greeted me. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of you.”
I put the vehicle in gear. “Sorry, man.”
“You’re never late for anything; I was kind of worried,” Steve admitted.
Steve had been my agent since I was drafted into the NHL as a kid. He had been in the business for a long time, and he knew what he was doing. He was kind of a father figure to me when I was coming up and was always there for guidance. He was also TJ’s agent, so I knew that was why he was in town. Also, with our season almost over, there was some worry about my contract being up in July. I liked Philly, but I was even more nervous about the possibility that the Bulldogs might not want to re-sign me now that I had Fi with me. I didn’t want to have to uproot her entire life because of my career. I knew that was something she was worried about, too, even if she never voiced it. I was afraid if Philly didn’t sign me and I had to go somewhere else, ripping Fi from her life here could cause her to rethink giving this marriage a chance.
“I’m sorry, man. I’m on my way now.”
I ran a hand through my blond hair and hung up the phone. It was not like me to forget about a meeting, but when I walked in today and saw Fi sitting there on the couch, all rational thoughts fell out of my head. All I wanted was to take her in my arms and show her what she had been missing. Which I totally did, so it was worth it being late for this meeting. I just had to think up a good excuse for my agent. The “sorry, I was too busy pleasuring my new wife” wasn’t exactly the type of thing I could lead with. Plus, Fi probably would have murdered me if I told Steve that. Steve had been Cillian Gallagher’s roommate in college, and he’d known both of us since we were small children.
I got to the restaurant in no time and found Steve in a booth in the back. I slid into the seat across from him and quickly ordered when the waitress came over. I looked up at Steve, and he had this smirk on his face that I couldn’t place. I scratched my jaw, feeling the itchiness of my facial hair coming in. Steve’s
