makes it worth it.

“I love you so fucking much.” He kisses me as he grinds his hips again.

Lifting his face from mine, Jaxon bites his bottom lip. His voice is strained as he says, “Fuck, you feel good, baby.”

By now, the pain is a dull ache, and I really need him to enjoy this moment, too. He deserves to have this be special given how hard it was for us to get here.

I reassure him, “You can move faster now. I’m okay.”

He looks back at me, his eyes tense with strain from holding back. “You sure? I don’t want to hurt you more than necessary.”

“It doesn’t hurt anymore,” I lie. “Please, Jaxon, I’m good now.”

Jaxon takes my chin between his fingers and kisses the corner of my lips. Securing himself on his elbows, he buries his face in my neck as he picks up his pace. I’m actually surprised it doesn’t hurt worse than this. Leave it to Jaxon to make even a painful experience enjoyable.

The blanket clings to Jaxon as he moves in and out of me. The pain has subsided, and it actually feels good now. Not orgasm good, but good enough that I find myself moaning as Jaxon fills me. His movements become erratic as I place my hands around his neck, feeling the beads of sweat forming there.

He lowers himself to kiss me once. “I’m gonna come, Nyx.” He moves even faster now as we’re chest to chest, his hips pounding into my entrance. Jaxon thrusts one final time inside me and holds there, his body jerking a bit as he releases himself inside me.

We’re still connected as Jaxon rests his head on mine to collect his breath, his chest rising and falling rapidly above me.

Once his breathing settles, he pulls out of me and looks down between us. Lifting himself up until he’s kneeling, Jaxon reaches for the paper towels, pouring some water on them. He wipes himself down quickly and reaches for more. I attempt to move, but he stops me.

“Hold on, baby.”

He takes a water bottle and pours it onto the towels. Parting my legs, he gently cleans away the sticky residue around my thighs and entrance, my body already feeling sore. I want to stop him, but I know he appreciates my vulnerability.

And this is as vulnerable as it gets.

I lie here and watch him, but it isn’t until he places the paper towels in a garbage bag that I realize he’s cleaning off the blood. Jaxon gently pats down my sensitive area until there aren’t any fluids left. After he’s done, he cleans off his hands and slides in behind me to cuddle under the thick wool blanket.

I scoot closer to him, feeling his nose in my hair. He squeezes me tightly, intertwining his legs with mine. As Jaxon plays with my hair, my body feels lighter, drowsier.

Jaxon’s hand reaches for mine, interlocking our fingers on my hip. “You have a thing with hand holding while we sleep, I’ve noticed.”

I feel the soft air from his exhale on my shoulder. “I’m just saving you the trouble of searching for me in the middle of the night.”

I turn my neck towards him, puzzled. “Search for your hand? You’re the one who holds mine all night. I noticed it the first time we slept together in your bed, after Dumbo.”

Jaxon pulls me into him tighter, not arguing, just making his point. “Nope, I barely slept that night, baby. You know that. And your hand was gripping mine so tight, I couldn’t even get up to go to the bathroom.”

“Really?” Jaxon hmms in response.

We lay here together, breathing in sync and silent for a while. My eyelids grow heavier and just as I’m about to let sleep take me, I hear Jaxon’s tired voice in my ear, “You’re my purpose, baby.”

I wiggle into him closer to feel more of his warm embrace. “Yeah? Well, that’s good to know. Because I think you’re my destiny.”

The next morning, I wake up, still naked, to sunlight beaming through the cracks in the wood of the shed. And it’s hot. I look around the shed and notice all the candles were blown out, and the Mason jar lights above are beginning to dull. I stretch my arms over my head, and Jaxon stirs in his sleep.

His eyes open, and he sits up next to me, stretching his arms over his head.

“Morning, beautiful.”

I hold the blanket over my chest as Jaxon kisses my exposed shoulder.

I wink at him. “Morning, Charming.”

He rubs his stomach and yawns out, “I am starving.” I get up to get dressed, but he pulls me back down. “Where do you think you’re going so fast?” Hugging me from behind, he adds, “You’re a sight for sore eyes in the morning, Nyx.”

I try to tame my very messy hair. “Oh, yeah. I’m quite the looker right now.”

“I think this is my favorite look on you, yet.”

“Yeah, yours isn’t much better, you know.” I gesture to his hair that’s part flat and part sticking up.

Waggling his eyebrows, he quips, “It’s my fresh outta Cameron look.” He tousles his hair in an attempt to fix it, winking at me. “Get used to it, baby.”

“You just can’t help yourself, can you?”

“I think you’re the hangry one, baby. Let’s go get you fed before the beast really comes out to play.”

Rolling my eyes, I push him off me and stand up. We both get dressed and pack up all the leftovers from the picnic last night.

“What about the lights?” I point up to the ceiling.

“Roger actually told me to keep them there. Apparently, he likes it.” He shrugs as we leave our little paradise.

The sun’s shining bright, and I am starving, so we head to a local diner by the beach and grab some breakfast. We order and devour our food. It doesn’t slip my mind how I’ve become so comfortable doing simple things like this with Jaxon; I never would’ve gone into a public restaurant to eat before. But now, I just want to be wherever he is. Where nobody
