The Magic Mirror

I came upon a magic mirror
that beckoned me to look inside.
I saw a door, I hoped, would lead me
into a different, better world.

I stepped right through the magic mirror,
and suddenly - God, where was I?
Deep in the darkness of my mind.
And fascination took me over.

So I explored my inner self,
unearthed my secret wicked dreams,
unfolded, probed, researched and learned
the horrors of my very soul.

And then - I heard the door fall shut,
the magic mirror had me trapped!
I pleaded, knocked and cried in vain,
release the mirror would me not.

Oh, how much I yearned to live
my old and quiet, boring life,
I missed the world I knew was real,
so ordinary, sane - and safe!

Now I weep in desperation,
sheer madness lies ahead of me!
My way out blocked, I venture forward,
I’m on the path I chose to be.
