Ride with the Devil

Dust settles onto his face shield,
as he sits and waits for a push off.
When the oil pressure rises into the green
he reaches up and flips the mag switch on.

The engine fires and sounds like a barrage!
He pulls away, and the sound becomes a roar!

He finds his place in line and settles in.
He jinks it back and forth to heat the tires.
When there’s one to go he pulls the belts very tight.
In turn four he concentrates on the flag.

The green is out, and he starts his trip through hell!
He floors the gas, and releases the devils spell!

He slides through turn one in a gloomy cloud.
He can not see in front nor can he see behind.
The roar of hell is screaming all around.
He feels sharp contact and the car starts to roll.

He’s being hit very hard from all sides!
Tremendous force is crashing in upon him!

His mind is dazed he can’t see a thing.
He feels a chill advancing up his side.
It reaches his face “My God its gas!”
He knows he’s going to die!

He cries “Oh please don’t let me burn!
Don’t let me die strapped to this cage in Hell!”

Suddenly he sees a pair of shoes up in the sky.
Now hands are reaching down and pulling him up.
Now he’s staring up into a star filled sky.
He rolls to his side and struggles to his knees.

He stands up, and waves to the cheering crowd.
As he walks away he turns and stares back at the wreck.
His heart skips as the Devil streaks through his sole…
