SURFING WITH THE HEADBANGER.

I accepted his invitation to ride the waves together
wanting to see what this man could do.
Having someone other than a local to see in action a rare pleasure.
We headed quickly for the deep water.

A unique wave came, we both sensed each other's thrill.
Speeding, faster, current accelerating us unimpeded.
He passed me as if a hidden wave aided him.
I underestimated this lover of music.

Though I saw him ride his board
his black heavy shorts, his long wavy black curly hair
a contrast with the surroundings.
The very sea he rode was nevertheless his element.

His stance perfect although skills in some ways unrefined.
His build looked too light for his board
but the way his feet stamped it he had the strength of an elephant.
He dominated the waves he rode.

No-one's a better surfer than I am
but this man from out of state impressed me.
Many will be hard pressed to match him.
The coaches were his equals.

While not within my calibre
he has proven himself mighty with his skills.
Moving forward, meeting and accelerating with this new face of surfing
I rode the waves alongside him as a brother in the sport.
