My Lost Child

Your out there somewhere, I know you are,
Lost from me, but still my angel, my star.
My heart aches with unbearable pain,
The cloud above my head is continually producing thunder and rain.
I pray that you know that I still do care.
I failed you, my sweet and innocent one,
I swallowed myself in self pity, and then set out on the run.
Hiding from all of the same,
The shame of knowing that it was I that caused your pain.
How could I have been so oblivious to see,
That you my precious child needed me.
Your mother abandoned you,
Oh how I wish I could say it isn’t true.
I live with that reality, and endure my guilt every day,
Please God, be sure she is happy, healthy, and loved I pray.
I hold our memories so dear and close to my heart,
If only I could go back to the beginning, and press re-start.
I don’t expect you to forgive me,
But a part of your life I so long to be.
I remember feeling so blessed on the day of your birth,
One look at you and all my pain seemed to fade away, deep into the earth.
I love you my precious little one,
I love you over the moon, and past the sun.
I am so sorry my daughter,
I will never stop loving you, not ever.
