CHOOSE YE THIS DAY

As I lay here bleeding out on the curb near the intersection of Hubbell and Intervale Street

I am the infamous gangster the one many would just cringe to meet

I just can’t believe I am shot, not me the great Frank Smith untouchable with much wit

Be aware of cowards because one of them put out this execution style hit

The Detroit Police nor other gang leaders had the nerve to confront me face to face

In and out of consciousness I go, but people continue to walk pass me at a quick pace

Grandma’s words are echoing through my bruised head begging me to rest and stay home

Even when I was a child and she told me what to do, I just ignored her and talked on the phone

Not a single soul stopped to see if I was alive

So I guess it is truly time for my demise

Unable to move or talk

I thought about what my grandpa said when we went on our walks

He told me to finish school, to always respect others and God would send me blessings

However as I grew older bitter and cold, I forgot about those lessons

I’m not getting sentimental and I don’t need anyone’s sympathy

I realize that all I did and all I accomplished was all for me

I made sure I had food, the best clothing, the best homes, plenty of money and several cars

I even own several apartment buildings, boats and even a few bars

With great speed, I am moving through eternity

I am wondering now if I will live in peace and serenity

My body is falling deeper and deeper into this dark hot smelly hole

I wish I had listened to grandma when she was talking to me about my soul

Balls of sweat are now dripping off of my face, I never could deal with a lot of heat

Man this temperature is even burning my ears and feet!

The smell is incredibly foul, I’m trying to cover my blistered mouth and sweaty red nose

Why did I have to end up here? but I realized, this was WHAT I CHOSE!
