Kim's Gift (Set In NYC)
It's cold and cruel
this December
my city streets
no longer comfort me
I wonder through downtown
like a bird
on a mission
If only I didn't Claim
that I could make it
without him, without love and peace
I want to erase
this night
out of my life
I am like a candle
in the wind
It never crossed my mind
how much
I would not fit in
once I gave all I had for
for the sin
that is waring thin
it does not make me happy anymore
so what do I do
I am so far from home
my money is in a pouch
right by my side
six dollars left till
the next time i decide
to go out and beg
It is dawn and snow
has come
my box is covered in it
but then I realize that
I am not inside my box
a kind old lady looks at me
and smiles
"Merry Christmas dear"
I back up to escape only to realize
that I am in a locked RV
the van is warm and
the lady makes up coffee, toast and eggs
in her little kitchen
I asked her how she found me
and why she parked her fancy RV in a
dark alley, where someone
could very well tear it to pieces
She told me that she met a handsome guy
that was missing his girl
that told her where I stayed
and then that guy vanished
into the fog of the snowstorm
I thank her and
handed over my six dollars
she doesn't take the money
instead she pulls out my stash
from the tin can, where I hid it
and tells me that if she can
get me to watch her destroy it
then she is repaid
I agree
after breakfast we go outside to my box
she brings out her fire pit
and together we shred my box and
the pour the stash over the frosty cardboard
she lights a match
it snaps, crackles and pops
pretty colors shine in the flames
she asks me If I feel any better
and I say "yes, thank you
this is the best Christmas gift ever".

Needless Demands (Set In NYC)
Ice covered sidewalks
Sunshine In my eyes
Eight o'clock is too early
For me to be up
Work starts soon
Nine to five
I despise the day shift
Thing is
If I don't work
I'll be a starving artist
Nothing in life is free
The subway is dirty
Trash everywhere
The bus is crowded
Chaos everywhere
There is ice in my hair
I need to buy fish food
After work today
No pets the land lady says
Fish don't count
I hate those fish
All they do is stare at me
They never appreciate my art
Nor my hard work
I should just cook them
Feed them to the cat that
Lives on my roof top
The decaying old lady never goes up there
The cat is just a stray
Unwanted like me
We both don't fit in to this
Huge city life
But can't afford to reside
Anywhere else
I let the cat in at night
Out she goes before
I wake every morning
She knows that if we
Are caught
I'll get Evicted.
