"The Common Grave"
Mother Nature dons a macabre disguise
Twisting mountains and slashing at skies
Steady streams flow, on shocked graven faces
Common wails rise from men of all races
Embraced in the arms of a common fate
Those left behind will always wait
For news of those loved ones never found
But quickly placed in the waiting ground.
Hastily covered. An unmarked grave.
Fathers and children that couldn’t be saved
The scores of loved ones left behind
Still tossing rubble, for just one sign
Of life beneath, what they once called home
Hungry and tired but not alone
Hands pitching in, to offer relief
From all but their endless, wordless grief.
And a world comes together in common prayer
Delivering hope to those left in despair
That their loved ones are safe,in the hearts of those saved
Embraced in the arms, of the 'Common Grave'.
"Sunburnt Heroes"
Sunburnt heroes holding microphones
Show up out of nowhere, to amplify the groans
And dust-streaked cheeks, turn toward the sky
Outstretched arms, ask the question “why?”.
Bloody hands toss rubble, even after all hope fades
Grisly scenes of makeshift morgues, as pestilence invades
Tiny hands cup sips of swill, from puddles next to dogs
And hungry half-men hit the streets, forming angry mobs
“Relief is on it’s way”, they say, but will it come in time.
Nothing on those ships will cure the wretched left behind.
And the dirt will settle slowly, on those they couldn’t save.
A world prays for the buried souls, within The Common Grave.
