You’re Always There
When the Lord revealed his plan for me,
And asked who would help guide me,
Without hesitation and without second thoughts
You raised your hand and your voice
With an oath saying “I’ll be there.”
I don’t know how or when it came to be,
But even in my unborn days you where with me.
And when the day came for me,
To enter this cold yet wondrous world
Something made it even better,
It’s because you were there.
In times of trial or when I failed,
Failed to do the things I should,
I was always shown what I did wrong,
Or when I did right you were there to praise.
Because you were there.
And still today, as I grow older
I know without a doubt,
That with arms open wide,
And with stern directions,
You'll always be there.
Guardian Angel
One night I had a dream; it left a tale to tell
I dreamed I saw an angel, poor thing he wasn’t well.
His body was bruised and battered, his wings were ripped and torn
I saw that he could barely walk; he looked so tired and worn.
I went to him and asked “Angel, how can all this be?”
He turned to me and paused a bit; these words he spoke to me…
I am your Guardian Angel, a great task as you can see
You’ve run amok all your life and now look what you’ve done to me.
These bruises are from shielding you in times of dire ill,
Those drugs you used so dangerously, I often paid the bill.
My wings you see are ripped and torn, a noble badge I wear,
So many times they’ve shown you from evils unaware.
Each mark has its story, of deadly foes destroyed,
You’ve made me wish, more than once that I was unemployed.
Oh, if only you could make it on your own!
But please don’t fret and worry, you’ll never be left alone,
I’m here to watch over you until my powers fail.
However, always remember, I’m getting old and frail…
I wept on his broad shoulder, and left him in despair,
When I looked in the mirror that morning, I pondered
Why should I try?
Then in the distance I thought I heard a frail old angel cry.
