Dear Amy Lee Jones mother of four,
Your eldest daughter Allison Julie Jones has been selected to come to our annual masked ball. If she makes the final cut from there she will move on to our annual game, if and only if she is one of the last 4 standing she will have the chance to marry the prince, if he chooses her to his liking. My the odds be in your favor and your daughters
Love,
Rosie Anne Miller of the council
My Allison, I thought to myself heart brokenly. I can’t let her go, she could be killed in the game! Oh my darling. Grasping the letter in my hand I felt my heart ache and I let the tears fall, I haven’t felt this bad since I was her age 18. I fold up the letter and stuff it into Allison’s book. I’ll tell her when she gets home no need to rush, I reassured myself. My little girl, was all I could think of when Allison stepped into the house and looked at me.

Silently fidgeting with my dress I walk home, wondering what will come of me. 18 years old only 2 years till complete freedom, well unless you are one of the unlucky people being sent to the masked ball and the game. Oh how I pity the council taking innocent girls, they break hearts and throw them away if they aren’t perfect. The last 4 girls at the least luckiest, the prince will choose one of them. I hate the prince, he makes everything so complicated, why can’t he simply ask a young lady out and see if he likes her like a normal guy would. Completely observed in my thoughts I walked pass my house, noticing this I turned around and tripped. Standing up I brushed my dress off and looked around to see if anyone saw that, thankfully no one did. Continuing to my house I kept clear of my thoughts. Walking into my house I looked over at my mother who was crying. She looked back at me and burst out into more tears.
“Mum, what’s wrong,” I asked her walking over to her quickly gathering her into my arms. My bad thoughts got the best of me and I tried to push them away.
“Did Father get hurt,” I asked and then ranted on about how he should have been more careful about his diet.
“Darling, stop your father is fine,” she whispered pulling me into a hug.
“Then what is it mum,” I questioned dying to know what caused her this heart break, I never seen her so sad. She didn’t answer me with words instead she picked up my book and took out a letter. The letter, I thought to myself and felt my heart sink.
“Oh no,” I cried and snatched the letter from my mother softly. Unfolding it I read the words over and over. I felt myself starting to crumble and I fell to the floor and started crying right there. No, I repeated in my head a billion times, it can’t be me.
“You leave tomorrow Darling,” my mum said softly almost as if she spoke any louder I would break and I felt that way. I stayed there on the floor crying until my father came home.
“Amy, why is she on the floor crying,” my father asked sounding scared. There was no reply just the unfolding of a paper.
