Chapter 1

I honestly never thought i would even contemplate getting in that beat up van with my dad. He has this delirious idea that we needed to 'spend more time together' and 'finally be father and daughter again'. I think my mom gave him an hint to take me. She hasn't been really liking me lately. A few F's in school. Suspension. No big deal, but since my mom is always melodramatic, she's always making things a big deal. "Are you excited?" My dad suddenly cuts through my thoughts. "Yeah i'm totally excited to spend an entire summer in a small town in a small house!" I sound sarcastic. My dad rubs the bridge of his nose and says, "Try and be excited just for this once?" Crossing my arms, i speak nothing. Not even a whisper. My dad lets out a sigh and keeps his eyes focused on the rode.
Lately i've been spending most of my time thinking. College is just around the corner and i have no idea what i'm doing. My mom's been bugging me about looking at universities but i'm not budging. To me, college is just a waste of time. Erratic choice. But then again, i graduated high school so that should be enough.
"Were here" my dad says distraught. The house is pale yellow with a atrocious porch. It is pretty small. Very comprehensible. I let out a loud sigh so my dad could hear it. I think he got the point because he said, "Just get your stuff Raven. I'll show you your room when you're ready" I rolled my eyes and said a simple, "Okay" and trudged to the van. I walked as slowly as i could. If the outside look bad, the inside must look horrid. I open the car door and got my suitcases and walked to the door. In a swift motion i turned the doorknob and look what was beyond. I dropped my suitcases and my mouth. It was gorgeous. Absolute beautiful. In the corner of my eye i saw my dad smiling.
"Its gorgeous" i mumbled. The flooring was made of cherry oak wood as well as the decor. The walls were a pea green color with a hint of orange. Flowers everywhere. Including an elegant fireplace. I looked over at my dad to see him smile a snotty grin. I snarled "What?" "You said it was going to be ugly." His smile made me get even more angry. "Whatever. Wheres my room?" "Down the hallway on your left" I quickly started to go down the hallway, then the bedroom door. I opened it and stare at its breathtaking presents. The room looks exactly the way i want it.
Inside, the walls were black and red. Posters of my favorite bands. Sex pistols, Metallica, Megadeth. Then theres the big mirror in the corner of my room. I studied myself. Pale with striking red hair and big blue eyes. Dark nails, and dark eyes. Then theres the not so somewhat skinny body. "Like it?" I jumped at the sound of my dad's voice. I stared at him gratifying. "I love it. How did you know what to do? What to get?" "Well after we planned all this out i talked to your mom and asked what kinda stuff you like. She explained your room to me and i got scared." He let out a soft laugh. I rolled my eyes. "Haha so funny" he smiled and innocent smile.
"I'm going to the beach" i walked past him and gave him a little nudge. I grabbed my bag and i was out the door.
~ ~ ~

Since i live in fort bragg, there has to be at least 41 beaches. All them are beautiful but Casper has to be my favorite. When i was really little my mom and dad loved to go there. We would have a nice picnic and after we were done my mom would pick me and we would play in the water. It was a relaxing time in my life. Then as quickly as that came, it went. Kinda like toilet paper.
I walked along side of the beach and felt the frosty breath of the air on my neck. Memories swooshing back. Both worthwhile, and dastardly. Everything seems to all come clear and unclear when you're on the beach. I love the sand that comes in-between your toes. Its a great feeling. I gently sit down and stare at the waves for awhile. So nice.... "Hey whats your name?" I open my eyes and see a tall girl with blonde hair and perfect skin. "Uh what?" she gave me a look like are-you-high-or-something. "I'm asking what your name is?" "Its Raven" she smiled. "I love you're name. My name is Poetry" Poetry? That had to be the most interesting name i have ever heard.

She must have been reading my thoughts because she said, "I know its an unusual name, but my mom loved poetry so much that she named me it" she smiled again. Her smile could really dazzle up this whole town. Maybe even the whole world. "No i like it. Its really pretty" i got up to shake her hand, but she moved into a hug. I stood there looking awkwardly as Poetry hugged me. I patted her back and stepped off.
