Monday's Are the worst

Monday’s are definitely the worse time of the week. When you hear your alarm clock in the morning trying to wake you up, all you want to do is destroy it into a million pieces. I’m sure that I am not the only human being on this earth who feels the same way as I do. Getting out of bed on a Monday morning, is the most difficult task there is. Yes I should be grateful for and thankful for each and every day, but I hate Monday’s. Especially when you’re in high school.

The school I attend is Jason’s Memorial High and is like any ordinary high school, except weirder. Surprisingly enough, teachers at this school try their best to help students. Well, those who have parents that are celebrities, work for the government, or won the lottery. Students like me, are pushed under the rug like a bug.

Rumor has it, there will be two new students attending Jason’s Memorial High. From what I have been told, both of them were strange, but very good looking. They say the girl Erica Williams, was a Goddess. For the past week, that was all the guys at this school was talking about. Some guys placed bets on who will get her number first, while others were hoping to get in her pants. On the other hand, girls were gushing over about the guy. According to every girl in the school, the new guy is very muscular and tall. I don’t know where they get all of this information, but whenever there is something new to gossip about, everyone seems to crave for every bit of detail that they can obtain.

I live in a small town called Fallendale. Population of six hundred and twenty two. Our town is more of a pit stop then a vacation spot. Those who venture into our little town, do not stay for very long. Fallendale was a popular mining spot in the early eighteen hundreds which flourished from the big discovery of gold. Mining only lasted for thirty years because of the major collapse that ended the mining mission. Many men have lost their lives deep in the underground tunnels due to the collapsing of the first two levels. Those who were at the surface, tried desperately to help the men who were trapped underground, but failed. Since the collapse, families have tried to move on and learn from what happened.

Currently I live on my own. When I was eight years old, I lost my parents to a car accident. The person that killed them, was texting and drunk driving. Of course, the only sentence they have gotten, was two years in prison. My grandparents raised me since then, but I recently lost them too. My grandpa would always call me Little Veronica. He took over the role of being my father, as my grandma took over the role of being my mother. I owe them my life. Everything they did was to make me happy and to ensure me a stable life. Since they took the rule of being my parents, I thought it was only right that have their last name. They didn’t agree with me at first, but eventually they allowed me to change it. Ever since I lost them to old age, I have been on my own. They managed to keep a savings account over the years and built it up in case of anything that might happen. In their Will, they gave me the house and all of its belongings, including the money they had. We always had a small family, which left me with the majority of their belongings.

On a typical Monday morning, I would drive the old 1983 Dodge Minivan that my Grandparents left to me. I can still remember the first day I driven that van to my school for the first time. Many people stared and laughed as I passed them, while others stood in silence and somewhat felt bad for me. It’s not like I cared for their opinion. Hell, I didn’t care at all. But it would have been nice if they would have just ignored me like they usually do. The Dodge Minivan was well maintained, thanks to my grandparents. Of course, it would still have its little hiccups. Because of the engine being so old, some mornings it wouldn’t start. My grandfather tried everything to get it fixed. He even brought it to every garage within a two hour distance. Each technician said the same thing.

“Sorry sir, but there is nothing that we can do.” My Grandfather had no choice but to keep it the way it was. He wasn’t happy about it, but what could he do?

Since it was trusted down onto me, I did everything I could to keep it well maintained. Yes sometimes the gas light would appear on the dash, but I would do my best to keep it topped up. My Grandfather would never allow the gas tank to go below half of a tank. But with me living on my own and only living off of the money that was given to me by them, sometimes you have no choice but to live on a tight budget.

I tried getting a job in this small town, but nobody would hire me. See, the way it is in Fallendale, you have to know a certain person or people to get a job. If you’re a nobody, then you are pretty much shit out of luck. The chances of being hired, are very slim.

Pulling into the parking lot at Jason’s Memorial High, every student of the school was outside waiting for the two new students. Driving through the people was annoying, because not a single person would move out of the way. All they did was move one inch, and expect me to move past them. What they needed to understand, was the fact that I was driving a Minivan, not a tiny car. They think I can magically drive in between them without having a problem. On top of that, there were no parking spots left. For the amount of vehicles there, every student must have somehow found or borrowed a car and driven to school in it. It was like they didn’t bother taking the bus. Finally, I found a parking spot on the other side of the school. Which meant I had to walk at least fifteen minutes to get to class.

The school was basically empty when I walked in. That was because every student was outside waiting to get the first glimpse. Honestly, I don’t get what the big deal is about those two. Everyone is acting like their celebrities and trying to get an autograph or a picture taken with them. Teachers were starting to get really annoyed by the students and tried to force them into their classes, but they failed.

As I walked to my locker, I start to think about my first day of school. My mom was so excited when she bought my school supplies and clothes. I on the other hand, could have cared less. I wasn’t like any ordinary five year old. While most children would be really excited to start school and make friends, I hated the thought of school and meeting other kids. Since I was little, I didn’t socialize very much. The thought of it scared me because of how everyone would always bully me and pick on me for who I was. My parents tried their best to help me, but it wasn’t enough. So, they let me be who I wanted to be.

Like any other parent, they would want the best for you and they expect you to do your very best. Teachers were always impressed by my grades and studies, which surprised them because of how I lacked interest. I seem to have inherited my parent’s intelligence. From what I was told by my Grandparents, my Mother and Father were very smart. By some miracle, it was passed down onto me. Don’t know if that is a good or bad thing, because my Grandma always told me to embrace my intelligence and learn from it…

“Watch where you’re standing loser”

I was so deep into thought, I didn’t notice that I was standing in the middle of the hallway. People were walking past me while giving me a look as if I had three heads. While others walked by and started to laugh. Feeling my cheeks blush, I quickly start walking to my locker. Without looking where I was going, I turn and walk right into someone making me fall flat on my ass.

“Ouch!” My butt starts to throb from the pain of falling onto it.

“Oh my God! Are you alright?” A sweet voice quickly makes me forget about the pain.

When I look up, I see a tall beautiful woman standing above me. Her hair white as snow, with piercing bright blue eyes, pale skin and pink lips. Her nails were long and beautiful, as if she just had a thousand dollar pedicure. Her voice swept over me like silk, almost intoxicating. Her body was like a Goddess. She had the curves that a man would probably kill for. But would make girls want to crawl in a hole and bury themselves if they compared them to her. Everything about her was enticing. Now I understand why the guys were doing everything in their power to find ways to get into her pants, or even get her number.

Her eyes continued to stare into mine, waiting for an answer.

“Umm… y-yes!” I try to stand, but fall back down.

“I am so sorry!” She takes a hold of my hand, and picks me up effortlessly. “I am truly sorry for bumping into you and making you fall. I hope I didn’t hurt you.”

“Don’t worry about it. I clearly wasn’t looking where I was going.” I try to shake it off as people watch us talking. Every eye in the school was on me and this girl. She had to be the new girl.

“It was my fault. Are you okay?” She asks again

“I’ll be alright. Just not going to be able to sit properly for the rest of the day, but no biggie” I try to laugh it off.

“Where are my manners? My name is Erica Williams. My brother and I just recently moved here from out of town. Today has been a little hectic for the both of us.” She flashes her perfect teeth at me as she smiles.

“So you’re the new girl. Feel like I already know you.”

She looks at me confused. “Already know me?”

“Everybody has been talking about you and your brother since they heard about you two. Honestly, it’s been getting a little annoying.”

She giggles a little “Let me guess. Every guy in this school has placed a bet on who will get in my pant first.”

I laugh along with her. “Yes. Or to at least get your number”

“Typical teenage boys.” She smiles.

“Sadly, that’s how it is like around here. One of the advantages of living in a small town.” I smile back at her.

“Yeah, my brother and I moved here to get away from everything. We wanted to start fresh and were hoping this place would be the best town to do it.”

“Not sure you picked the right town in my opinion.” She smiled

"Well, if people of Fallendale are as nice are you, we should get along just fine" Just as I was about to but in my opinion on that, the bell rang.

"Maybe I'll see you around school. Let's hang out some time!" She flashed her beautiful smile then turned to walk away.
