It is the year 1580, the eighth year of the Tenshou period in summer. I was walking to one of my servants, when I had gotten hit by my father. I threw a rabbit’s foot to the servant and she smiled. I entered his office and sat in front of him. “Listen Mitsuki, we have been living the way of the bushi for quite some time and it is rare to see a female as a samurai ever in the scrolls,” I sat quietly waiting for his command, “but, what you do not understand is that the role of a female is to tend to the homes and have children.”
“What? You let me train for nineteen years and now you want me to stop!” I stood up with Ruka next to me, if I can’t be a samurai then why am I the oldest child? “You made the law yourself, the firstborn shall be sent to the mountains with their father to train as a samurai. Why am I the only girl that is the oldest in the whole village?”
“I do not know, but before your mother left she told me to train you. If you were never trained as a samurai then she would come and kill me.” What is he talking about? “I never told you what happened have I?” Ruka and I shook our heads. “After Ruka was two your mother had left us, she wasn’t a slave as I told you but she was a ninja of the Sage village our enemy.” He stayed still for a moment. “…I am so sorry but I must send you to the mountains once more Mitsuki for your life is in grave danger; the ninja have found out about you and they are coming from every village to have your head. Please take what you can and leave at once!”
“But…”
“It is your duty as the priestess. Do you want to die? Go now!”
I ran into my room and packed a few weapons; finally I grabbed a horse and left my home. I was riding for hours until I reached the mountain; I let the horse go and went up to the huts in the high parts of the mountain. I heard talking and I quietly hid behind a boulder three times my size. “I’m telling you she is coming here!”
“We won’t know until we find out, all we know is her name and it’s Mitsuki.” They know my name! I felt hands on my body and saw one of them. “Hey Takuto we got her!” The leader came out; he had short black hair, red eyes, a black mask over his mouth, toned skin, a perfect body, and a blue katana. I was forced to the ground with a kunai against my throat. My black hair made my rare blue eyes hide from his face. He pulled my chin up and kissed me!
He let go quickly and told the man that held me to free my body. Once I was free I knocked the man down and jumped to the highest part of the mountain where no ninja is able to find. I ran past trees and boulders as I made it to a bear’s cave. The bear had been an ally to my village for years and lets us go here without a problem, I passed it giving it some fish and ran out of a small hole for us to crawl in and finally made it to the valley at the top of the mountain.
The wind blew against my black hair and my eyes shimmered in the sun light. I wanted to sleep but I couldn’t, I sat on a nearby boulder and began to meditate.
My five senses began to be at full power as I thought of all of the pain I had when I was younger. “Mitsuki!!” I looked and was tackled by none other than the man I was supposed to marry Goemon. “I was looking for you, why are you up here?” I pushed him off and tackled him covering his mouth.
“There is a ninja here, and he wants my head.” He was shocked and stayed quiet as heard footsteps coming toward us.
A shiruken was thrown and I was pulled into someone’s arms knocking me out in the process. “Mitsuki!” I last heard my ex fiancée.
I heard nothing and saw nothing but black. Soon I felt the strange feeling of fire against my skin. “Oh, you’re awake.” I jumped up and took my sword out. He raised his hands in defeat as soon as I unsheathed my blade. “I won’t do anything, as long as you don’t try to escape.” I put my sword away and sat down. “Good.”
I watched him fall asleep; then I made a run for it. I was fast and I ran up to a tree. “Father, why did you warn me today? If I knew before I wouldn’t be in this situation.” I heard a rustle and threw a dagger at it.
“Don’t do that to me!” I saw a boy with brown hair; I jumped down and hugged him. “I missed you so much Mitsuki.” Ruka cried in my shoulder and I jumped back on the tree and let him sleep in my lap.
I heard another rustle and saw the same ninja from before; I climbed higher with Ruka hiding in my jacket. My long black hair hid me as my blue eyes looked at the ninja’s movements.
“You can’t escape me, don’t you get it?” I turned quickly and saw him. He grabbed me and put me over his shoulder.
Ruka woke up as he felt me being lifted up. “Mitsuki what’s happening?”
“What was that?”
“’That’ is me!” he went out of my jacket and in the ninja’s face. “If you hurt her I will kill you.” Ruka took his bow and arrow out to show that he wasn’t kidding. The ninja pushed him away and continued to walk away. “Mitsuki…don’t leave me mom!” the ninja stopped in his tracks.
“Mother, you’re a mother?” I didn’t look at him until he dropped and kissed me again. I pushed him off and he tackled me. “What did I say about trying to escape?”
“I never listen to ninjas, especially you!” he took his mask off showing his mouth; he leaned in and kissed me then he pulled me close to him. I couldn’t resist; I just couldn’t I wrapped my arms around his neck as his went around my back. He let go, and picked up Ruka.
“Both of you will go to my village, just put this on and they will never know who you are.” I went behind a rock and quickly changed; once I got back Ruka was sleeping. We walked for some quiet time. “Are you really his mom?”
“No, he is my younger brother, our mother left us when he was two so he doesn’t know about her.”
“When was that?”
“Six years ago. I was still training when she left.”
“I have a plan your name now is Mitsuki Watanabi, instead of Sora OK?”
“Got it, they don’t know about Ruka so we’re fine.” We walked in more silence until gates to a village stood open. I stayed quiet as two men came up to us.
“You’re back early Takuto, who’s the girl and the brat?”
“I found them wandering around and decided to take them to shelter before the greedy shogun comes back.” Was he really speaking badly of my father? I stayed quiet and emotionless as he continued.
“Alright, so how was the quest you got?”
“Easier than ABC.” We walked through the village; heading to the hall where the leader of the village was. We entered the hall and I saw no women and many men. So no kunoichi here, great more time for me to be hit on. I thought as I bowed to the leader. “Lord Night claw I found these two in the forest hiding from the samurai, so I saved them and took them here. The young one will be under my wing when he awakes tomorrow.”
“And the girl?”
“Is she allowed to speak?”
“Yes she is, tell me your name girl.”
I was quiet for a while until I was able to speak, “My name is Mitsuki Watanabi, the boy is my little brother, Ruka we have been running from the samurai for days, and we need shelter before…”
“Yes?”
“Before they kill me for killing a samurai.”
“So, that is how you attained the katana?”
“Yes it is; I killed the samurai just to protect my brother.”
“Interesting…you will be living with Takuto until the samurai have given up on you, until then you will be a normal girl that does not wish to be a shinobi.”
“Thank you Lord.” I bowed once more and we left.
“That was good.”
“I think he was hitting on me.”
“Of course he was, but until you decide to say your real name you’ll be with me in my bed, don’t worry I won’t do anything to you.” We walked to his apartment; it was small but good enough. It was a two bedroom one bath; the kitchen was nice and clean so was everything else.
“I’ll put Ruka in the other room; you can get dressed and sleep.” I nodded and began to undress in his room; the walls were painted black, the bed sheets were white, and everything else looked like a training hall. I pulled over the sheets and began to sleep until I heard footsteps.
“Don’t worry it’s me,” I relaxed a little, but I never had my guard up with him why?
TAKUTO POV:
I walked into my room, “Don’t worry it’s me,” I took my shirt off, revealing the muscles I worked on for many years, the medium dark skin that I descended from my mother, the dragon tattoo on my right shoulder that leads to my forearm, and the scars I received from battle that are on my chest. I lied in my bed with the sheets over me and Mitsuki. Something is bound to happen while she isn’t in her home.
IN IGA….
GOEMON POV:
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT SHE WAS TAKEN?” Lord Sora said.
“A ninja took her away and by now she is probably dead.” I said with worry.
“Do you see the seal anywhere on the shinobi?”
“Yes, it was the seal of Night claw of the Sage village.”
“We wait a year; if she is dead by then, there will be another war.”
I woke up with the sun in my eyes; I remembered that I was living with the strongest Jounin in the village. I quietly got up and showered then went to wake up Ruka. He was small and so weak, he is supposed to be training right now but he followed me instead. I stepped out to the balcony
