Chapter 1: Nick
"Okay, I will help you to get better at football. Because I am such a nice guy." Mike Austin says to me one day during football practice. I knew why he was so unfriendly with me. It might partly have something to do with the fact that I am a 600 year-old vampire and he is a werewolf so we are born enemies, and it might partly be the fact that, oh I don't know, I am now dating his ex, Sarah Lindsen? Ah, Sarah. With her luscious long black hair, her always-wide gorgeous green eyes and her beautiful smile. Not only is she the most beautiful girl I have ever met but she is also the sweetest, kindest girl with such a pure soul that it even rubs off on as evil of a creature as myself.
"Thank you, Mike. I understand how hard this is on you and I appreciate you trying." Then I walk off before he can respond, a second before Coach Williams blows the whistle for the end of practice.
After showering and changing back into my normal clothes, I leave the locker room and practically run straight into the fairy of all fairies, Leah Lewis.
"Oh! Hi Nick!" She's so small she practically falls over, I catch her.
"Woah there, watch out Sugar Plum." I say, grinning down at her, our faces only inches apart. Someone clears their throat and I pull her up to see David Lindsen- Sarah's older brother, oh and Leah's boyfriend; who, just like his sister is not aware that their friends and loved one are mythical creatures they could only dream of- standing right in front of us, arms crossed; eyebrows raised.
"You ready to go babe?" Leah asks, nervously, taking hold of his hand and leading him away. I wave after them then hurry away. Thank god for Leah. I did not want to get into some kind-of brawl or anything like that right now. I hurry to the school entrance where I see her standing, thank god. I had been afraid she was gonna just leave. I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her waist. She jumps.
"Your here!" Sarah exclaims. "I was getting worried you weren't gonna show." I could see that her eyes were wet as she turned around. I really have to be careful with her. She can be very fragile, that's one of the reasons why it's good not to tell her about being a vampire. I'm afraid she would just freak out and leave me or start crying or something. I kiss her.
"I'm sorry." I take her face in my hands and kiss her forehead. "Coach had us stay a little later than normal. I promise not to scare you again." I rest my forehead against hers. She covers her hands with her sleeves and lifts her hands to cover her face and starts crying. "Shh, shh. It's alright love. I'm here now. I'm sorry if I scared you." She cries harder than says, her words muffled from her sleeves.
"No I'm sorry. I hate being so needy. You shouldn't have to- to hurry for me. I just can't help these feelings like I'm gonna be abandoned." I wrap my arms around her back and rub circles around on her back. The reason why she gets so scared is because her parents abandoned her when she was very young and her brother has been taking care of her ever since. He is now 19 and has a place that they live. They didn't have any family members alive so they ended up in too many foster homes to count. I understand why she is so paranoid, but I would NEVER abandon her. I love her. I pull her down to a bench and she rests her head in my lap as I stroke her hair. I can't help but notice her neck but I look up to see Leah standing there, looking at me disapprovingly.
"Are you guys ready to go?" She asks us, her eyes still narrowed at me. Sarah sits up and wipes her eyes with her sleeves, sniffing.
