Prologue

Hm? Who’re you? Ah, I see. Welcome then. Take a seat. What? Who I am? I don’t see how that’s any of your concern but oh well. I’ll tell you. I’m Yotiro Hayama. I’m 16 years old and I’m straight. I like reading and fighting. There isn’t much more to say I guess. Well, I’m a hunter. No, not like the ones with a stupid hat and a gun. No, I hunt for “them”. Who are “them”? I’ll tell you.

In this world, there are 2 kinds of people. The so-called normal people. And “them”. “Them” are the others. The ones who aren’t normal. They have powers. What kind of powers, you ask? Well, some people are extremely strong, some can heal, some can make objects out of light, some can control someone’s mind by just looking in their eyes. I can control minds by looking into someone’s eyes. Yeah, I suppose it’s a nice trait. Though it isn’t if you get killed for it in this godforsaken world.

I don’t work alone. I work under someone. I don’t know who he is. He always stays in the shadows. He trains me. I’m being trained to kill “them”. Personaly, I don’t want to kill. No one will ever be able to train me to do so. But it was this or die. I also do it for my brother, my sister and my mother. They’re all in his filthy claws. And at some point, I’ll have to kill them. But I’ll try to find a way around that.

“Yotiro.” I’m shaken out of my thoughts, only to kneel and lower my head in front of my master.

“Yes, master?” I say. A long pause is all I get for an answer. HE always makes me wait. I don’t like waiting for his replies. But I have to since he can kill me without doing so much as flicking his wrist.

“Your training is completed. Tomorrow you will start killing “them”. He says, speaking about my species as if they’re mere corpses lying in his way. Then again, that might be what they are to him. I just nod and get up again. But on the inside I’m cursing him for this hell he’s dragging me through.

“Then I’ll leave now, master.” I say, not waiting for approval as I turn around, walking towards the exit of the smelly building. It’s not like I’d need his approval anyways. He’s not as much my master as he’d like himself to be. I breathe in the fresh air as I exit the ugly, dark, empty building, looking up at the dark sky. I think about what he told me. Tomorrow I’ll start killing. I wonder if I’m capable of doing that.

I sigh and start walking, uncaring of where. I wonder who I’d have to kill. Maybe my brother. Maybe my sister. Maybe even my mother… I don’t think I’d be able to do that. Not yet at least. Maybe he’ll be kind to me and let me kill some child. Yeah, that’s kind in his sick, fucked up language. He’s sick, disturbed, a mindless being who has no feel of guilt in his soul. If he even has a soul. I’m not too sure about that. The way he treats my kind.

I focus on my surroundings again and I notice I’m on a street. Yes, amazing isn’t it? A street. But it’s not exactly like regular streets. It fades on both sides. It’s weird, and I wonder where I ended up this time. I look around, seeing a flower show and other shops you might need so I figure out it’s a shopping district of some kind.

I also see a cinema, a skating hall, a ranch, a- wait a minute, a ranch. And there was noise coming from it where everything else was dark. I guess I should go take a look. I think as I walk towards the ranch, looking at the horses. Horses in many different colors. I saw one black horse, completely black. With red eyes. That’s not exactly normal and I took a step back, as if I expected the horse to lash out at me. I felt like seeking up normalcy so I decided to go inside what looked like a bar.

As I walked to the door to the, what I assumed was a bar, looking to my right there was a kid, not older than 12 sitting outside, listening to music sitting on a small stone wall, leaning against the outside wall of the bar. He was staring out in front of him so I didn’t bother speaking to him. I walked towards the door, opening it. Light from the inside blinded me momentarily, having been used to the darkness outside. “Welcome!” A voice chirped.
