To Joe for the inspiration...
"Don't tell me you are over Joe?", Meg said smiling.
"I am not saying I am over him", I drank from the coffee she had just made.
"Anna, come on you love Joe, you are going to loose
him", I knew she was probably right but I was so scare
to get hurt once again.
"Joe and I need a moment to breath", she looked at me seriously.
"Well, just don't breath too hard",
"Meg, we can't be together right now", she finished her coffee and put the cup on the living room table.
"Anna, you and Joe love each other, how could you let it go?", I breathed slowly, managing not to let my tears come down.
"I know", she took my hand and I felt the warmth of her hand in mine.
"Just think about it", she was so right, as always. We were spending the afternoon together, we had gone shopping and she was planing to cook dinner, the babies were with their grandmother and her husband was
in a music festival for he was a musician just like Joe.
"Have Joe picked up his things from your place?", Meg looked at me with sweet smile, she always had a conforting look.
"No, not yet", my voice was a whisper.
"Have you forgotton you spend Christmas together, you two seemed so happy", I smile remembering those days not too far away, we had the best time at Naples where he played for a nice crowd in his friend club, it was a great time, how could I forget it.
"That is the problem, I haven't forgotten, how could I forget when he used to be playing his guitar in a room or when I heard him practicing with the band while I wrote, sometimes being tought on the guys"
"It sounds just like Joe", she laughed.
"Yeah, the guys in the band are a bit younger than him, they want something he dosen't want now, a record deal"
"I guess he just wants to play in the clubs just for the music, he is a good musician"
"Yeah, he is, a great one, gosh I love his songs Meg", I was beaming with pride.
"You love this guy, how could you just let him walk away, you were practically living together, you had never done that with a guy", that was so true, I had never let a guy into my private world.
"That is true", my cell phone ranged, it was Joe.
"Is Mr. Tough", she asked smiling for she liked Joe very much, she thought he needed me as much as I needed him, Meg gave us a bit of privacy.
"Hey baby, how is it going?", he asked with his deep voice.
"Good, how about yourself?"
"I suppose good, I was thinking about us", I felt something make me sad for a moment.
"Joe, don't say that"
"What am I saying?, I am just being honest, baby, what is wrong with us?"
"I don't know, we just need some time to think", he was silent for a moment.
"I had you on my mind all day today", I felt like crying, Joe was very important to me, he was a man who needed love, I needed love too, we were very much alike.
"Did you?"
"Yes, you know I love you", those words made my eyes be filled with tears.
"Oh Joe, I love you, I do, we are just better apart now", Meg looked at me with darts in her eyes.
"You are scare, I know"
"Maybe"
"Baby, this is not easy", I could hear his voice breaking down.
"I know and I am sorry, we need to talk when you come back"
"What are you doing tonight?"
"I am with Meg, we are having a girl's night at her house"
"That is great, I will be back on Saturday, can we talked then?"
"Yes Joe"
"Got to go, we got to play, baby, I love you", my knees trembled.
"I love you too Joe, take care, say hi to the guys for me"
"O.K, call you tomorrow", he hanged up.
"Anna, how is Joe doing?"
"Good, good"
"You guys need to talk, seriously"
"We will, I promise"
It was not easy for me to trust but the truth was that Joe really got to me in a way nobody had in a long time, I was just scare to love again, my heart was used to being hurt and I didn't seemed to realize
how much Joe loved me, I just hope that all of my stupid fears would not lead me to loose a good man,
that was my hope.
