I had heard of the strange things happening in Egypt, but I never thought I would be assigned to the case. My name is Alex Grimm, Ghost Hunter. I work for the PGA, a ghost association in Philadelphia. After my last assignment, I thought I would never be sent anywhere again. I was wrong.
“Grimm, you’re going to Egypt!” my boss, William Daniels, said. I had just walked in to my office, a fresh mug of coffee in my right hand.
“What?” I sputtered.
“I said you’re going to Egypt.” William replied, staring me hard in the eyes.
“But I just got back from a mission!” I complained. “And the event was very traumatizing.”
“That means you should be up and ready to go,” said William. Then he patted me on the back, and 24 hours later, I found myself on a plane headed to Cairo.
“How do I get myself into these sorts of things?” I thought to myself.
The plane landed in Cairo International 17 hours later. I took one last look at the plane, took a deep breath, and walked to the hotel.
The case in Egypt was a mysterious one. It was set in a house on the outskirts of Cairo. It seemed that all the men in the house drowned. My task, find out why and survive.
I entered the house at 2pm, on the day after I arrived. The family living there was nice, but there were only girls living in the house. The mother greeted me warmly, but I still heard concern in her voice.
“Welcome to my humble home, Mr. Grimm.” she said softly. My name is Sennett, and these are my daughters, Cora and Lanie.”
“Pleased to meet you.” they said, their voices high and chirpy.
“We hope you will have a peaceful stay.” replied Sennett. I was then shown to my room.
The room was furnished well enough. It was in a simple Egyptian style, with soft, hand-woven cotton blankets on the bed.
“Good night, Mr. Grimm.” said Sennett, for it was already 8pm that night. She then closed the door, and locked it with a barely audible click.
“Now I begin.” I said softly to myself. I quietly picked the lock to my door, and walked to the bathroom. To my surprise, I heard singing. It was a very beautiful, sounding like the tinkling of little bells. I walked into the room and saw her.
She had black hair that reached down to her shoulders. She also wore the clothes of an Egyptian queen. However, she had very pale skin, and seemed almost to be glowing. I then gasped, for I knew who it was. It was the ghost of Queen Nitocris, an Egyptian queen from the 6th century.
Suddenly, the young ghost looked up, gasped, and then smiled maliciously.
“Why hello, young man.” she said, her voice weak and raspy. “I did not see you there.” I was in a major panic, but I still managed to answer.
“My name is Alex Grimm.” I said. “And I have come to rid this house of you for good.” My hands trembled as she came up and put her forefinger under my chin, forcing my head up.
“Now before you do that, my dear Alex, how about you take a bath.” I suddenly felt very strange, as if I wanted to do anything the queen said. I slowly walked over and prepared to jump into the bathtub. Suddenly, part of my mind started to resist Nitocris’s enchantment. I then heard Viktor’s voice in my head.
“Alex, snap out of it!” he yelled. I woke from my trance just before my feet touched the water. I stepped out while Nitocris was glaring at me from across the room.
“You came out of your trance, Alex Grimm.” She hissed. “But you shall die all the same.” She then rushed at me, hands out to strangle me in her grasp. I lifted my hands out in front of me, heard her shout, and saw a flash of white light. She was gone. Then, just like before, I passed out.
“What happened?” I questioned. My mind still felt groggy, and I could barely move my limbs.
“You saved us.” replied Sennett. “Nitocris is gone, so my husband can move back in!” She came over and hugged me so hard that I almost broke a rib. When she released me, she was still beaming.
“By the way, Cora has a present for you.” she said. Cora came up beside me and sat a large fuzzy thing on my lap.
“Her name is Gwenet.” was all she said. I sat up to get a better look. On my lap sat a large black-footed ferret. She stared up at me with coal black eyes. I instantly fell in love. I held out my arm, on which she crawled up onto my shoulders.
“Thank you, Cora.” I said. Then, I looked at my watch.
“I should be leaving.” I said. “My plane leaves in a hour. So I packed up my things, waved goodbye, and set off towards the airport.
When I got home I made a small place for Gwenet to live, and then sat down in a small arm chair. I then felt a pang in my head. Suddenly, I heard Viktor's voice again.
“I owed you a favor, now it is paid” he said. “You saved my life and I saved yours, so we are even.”Then the pain stopped and I was left with Gwenet, alone in my room.
