The heat. It’s cool barrel rested unbiased upon his temple like a priest’s hand on his follower’s shoulder. With every pulse, every tick of his heart, he was in pure agony. He clenched his eyes shut, wrinkling his brow as he squinted now, through the salt filled tears to find his savior. All he saw was the night before him. Looming shadows dancing throughout the park as he groaned smoothly, his hand cradling the gun that now rest in his hand as easily as a mother cradles her new born. A sob came, “What am I doing?”

He groaned once more, it was odd how emotional pain could manifest itself into a gnawing physical ache so rough he’d actually be plotting the unthinkable. He lifted the barrel once more, his tantrum having sparked a crowd in the small park. People far off stopped, hands over their mouths as they watched the man wave his pistol from his temple, to the ground, tears came. Sniffing, he looked up, resting on the bench. Its cold surface attempted to cool his flaming skin; maybe he’d be able to see heaven if there weren’t tears in his eyes.

With a shaky hand, he pulled the pistol to his temple once more. He savored the sight of the crowd’s anticipation. A woman’s terror withheld with a simple hand before her mouth, as if her eyes didn’t give away the desperation she now felt watching this man of whom she had no connection with whatsoever point the deadly weapon at his head. Legs nearly buckling beneath the weight of his problems, he sat onto his bench once again. He turned the gun over, his thumb grazing the etches in it’s side. Trying to memorize the feel.
