Chapter 1C H A P T E R 1
In a small community called Gonigora, lived the Clifford family, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford were law-abiding citizens and raised 4 well-behaved children and the family pet dog, named inda.
Amir is a dark-skinned, average height, a 5-year-old boy; he is the youngest of the Clifford siblings. He Attends Gonigora Community primary school, and is in primary 2, in his free time he loves to play football and watch a lot of cartoons.
The family of Mr & Mrs. Clifford consisted of three boys and one girl, of which Amir was the youngest.
Many loved Amir, not just because of his good looks, but because he was obedient and also very funny.
Chapter 2C H A P T E R 2
In the Clifford family, everyone knows Amir to be the peacemaker and funniest one; there was never a sad moment when you are around him.
One day during a break at Amir’s school, a boy named Nasif was crying in a corner of the classroom while other of his classmates were already at the playgrounds. While coming back to the classroom for his football, Amir Saw Nasif crying and decided to know what made him upset. “Why are you crying Nasif?” Amir Asked.
“I do not have any lunch food today to eat,” replied Nasif crying. Feeling sorry for Nasif, Amir agreed to share his lunch with him. The school had a rule that students could not share their food with anyone, so Amir walked to the teacher to ask for her permission to share his food with Nasif. “Why did Nasif not come with his own lunch?” the teacher, Mrs. Ngozi asked
Nasif could not tell his teacher why he did not bring his lunch because he was sad to tell his teacher that his mommy and daddy had fought just before he left for school so none of them remembered to package his lunch. “You can share with Nasif,” the teacher said and walked away to continue her duties.
The two boys ate together and Amir lifted Nasif spirits after by making him laugh with his jokes.
Chapter 3C H A P T E R 3
Nasif and Amir had grown fond of each other and everybody knew they had become best friends in the Gonigra community Primary School.
Primary two was gradually coming to the end of the third term and all the pupils were preparing for the promotional examination, the two boys had promised themselves to take the first position in the class.
One day, teacher Ngozi asked the pupils to write a class test and everyone had their pencils out and ready to write except Amir, he was busy searching for his in his bag and around his seat till his teacher noticed he was not writing with others.
“Amir where is your pencil”? Teacher Ngozi asked angrily
“Ma’am I must have misplaced it’” he answered, shaking in fear
“Who has a spare pencil should lend Amir one,” the teacher told the other classmates, but no one gave Amir.
‘Amir, you are going to learn a lesson today, never to be careless with your belongings again’ The teacher said as she picked up her cane and flogged Amir 4 strokes of the cane o his palm, and afterward gave him a pencil to use.
Chapter 4C H A P T E R 4
“Aunty, Nasif had more than one pencil yesterday,” Oroma told Mrs. Ngozi.
Mrs. Ngozi was having a busy day marking the test she gave her class the previous day and so the pupils had some free time to play and be noisy.
Oroma sat next to Nasif in class and so she saw when he put his pencils in the front pocket of his bag after the test the previous day.
She wondered why Nasif refused to give his best friend one pencil out of the many he had.
Oroma kept trying to report Nasif to the class teacher amidst the noisy classroom. Quietness all of a sudden brought the attention of Mrs. Ngozi to the report as the pupils expressed their surprise to hear Oroma’s report.
Everyone in the class expected Amir to start a quarrel with his friend Nasif over the report they had just heard. After school that day, Amir went to his friend’s seat but he had walked home alone already.
Amir got home and told his mother about all that had happened in class and as always Mrs. Clifford comforted her son and encouraged him to continue to show kindness to everyone no matter the wrong that people do to him.
Chapter 5C H A P T E R 5
While at school the next day, everyone sat quietly in class after the morning devotion, Mrs. Ngozi walked into the classroom with a stern look on her face.
‘Nasif, come out and stand in front of the class’ she called out.
‘Did you have an extra pencil on the day we wrote the test?’ she asked, Nasif nodded his head to say No. Mrs. Ngozi turned to her table and picked up her cane, ‘Nasif, are you telling the truth?’ she spoke again, his time coming closer to Nasif, he knew he would be in trouble with Mrs. Ngozi if he kept telling the lie, he began to cry and told Mrs. Ngozi that he was sorry.
Everyone began to jeer at him, Amir, feeling sorry for Nasif came to where he stood and told him not to feel sad anymore that he had already forgiven him and that he was still his friend.
Mrs. Ngozi was impressed at Amir’s behavior, she asked Nasif to apologize to his friend and the class for telling a lie, then she went ahead to teach the pupils a new song about forgiveness.
The classroom became lively again, they were all happy.
The school session had ended and everyone was eager to know his or her class assessment report.
The Headmaster had announced at the devotion assembly that it was an annual custom in the school to give scholarship to the best-behaved pupil and the time had come to announce the name of the pupil that would be given the state scholarship for best behavior.
‘Amir, congratulations you are our best-behaved pupil and you have been awarded the state scholarship’ said the Headmaster as he stood before the primary one pupils.
Amir grinned from ear to ear, he was very happy to share
