That day ~

I remember the day I started my Freshman year at DeRidder High School like it was yesterday. I was the new girl, like I had been at a lot of other schools, but I had two friends that I had kept in touch with over the summer. Madelyn and Miranda were the only two people I knew.
Well, that day, I found out that me and Maddie had lunch together. So, in order not to eat at a table by myself, I ran to sit with her. Then, I saw him. He had blue eyes, black hair, and a beautiful smile.
"Who's this, Madelyn?" he asked her. I fell in love with that voice at that moment.
"This is Nikki, Lance," she replied. "She's new, and has our lunch, so be nice!"
"I'm always nice!" He winked at me, and my heart began to flip.

The next day, I came to school crying (such was the case back then), and I felt someone hug me. Thinking it was Maddie or her sister, I said nothing and continued to cry. But after a few moments, I noticed that it was a guy hugging me. I pulled back, completely ashamed that I had let any of my emotion out in front of anyone. It was Lance, and that fact just made me blush.
"What's wrong?" he asked. I had to admit, I liked that he was being really nice to me.
"Nothing," I lied. He shook his head and forced me to look up at him.
"If it was nothing, you wouldn't be crying," he observed. I glared at him. "When I say it's nothing," I said, wiping a few stray tears from my face. "It usually means I don't want to talk about it."
"You can trust me, you know." At that moment the bell rang, and I turned away. "I can't trust anyone," I muttered.

At lunch, Lance cornered me. "OK," he said. "Now, I want to know what was wrong with you this morning."
"I have a bitch for an aunt, and I hate my life. Does that answer you?" I was being a jerk, I know, but I couldn't help it. I really did not like talking about my home life.
"Well, that answers that one, but it leaves a lot more open. The first is, what would you do if I kissed you?"
"Wait, what?" He didn't respond, because he kissed me right then and there. I didn't slap him or anything, which probably makes me look like a slut. But this was my first kiss ever

. I didn't really know what to make of it.
"Look, I know you said your aunt's a bitch," he said. "But you're going with me to Homecoming, whether she likes it or not."

That day started a 4-year relationship. Now, I realize that Fate smiled on me for sure!
