Genevieve tried her best to slip through the door without opening it enough to make is squeak on its hinges. She failed.
"Genny, could you come here for a sec hun?"
Genevieve walked into the kitchen where she found her mother making dinner. She was humming Overlord Hannah's battle chant, apparently the same one used when she first took over. Genevieve looked at her mother with a curious look. It was weird to think that her mother had been by her Aunt Hannah's side when she took over the world and became Overlord Hannah. Her mother had known her aunt since High School, she had helped plan the takeover, and she had loyally stood by her side as BuckGeneral ever since.
That was probably why she and Matt were such good friends. Matthew Matillus Buckmaster was Overlord Hannah's oldest son, and Genevieve’s best friend. Matt takes after his dad in appearance, with his tall, tan and muscular body along with his blonde hair, but inherited his mother's eyes, sense of humor and love of villains and fire. Genevieve remembered when they were little and would go to his family's castle in Ireland and play hide and seek. She also remembered the time he told her about the exploding pickle he almost ate, they both have been terrified of pickles ever since. She usually spent most of her time with Matt, because they were born only three months apart.
Genevieve's mind started to wander to this afternoon's events and she didn’t notice herself losing grip on reality and sinking deeper and deeper into memories of him. The way he laughed, his amazing smile, the way his eyes lit up after lighting a match or playing with a lighter, those amazing blue-green eyes........
Her trance was broken by her mother flicking cold water off her fingertips into her daughters face.
"Are you ok hun, you seem preoccupied. It shouldn't surprise me though, it runs in the family."
Genevieve blushed at her mother's statement. Everyone said she took after her mother. She had the same slim figure and brown hair, but her father’s brown eyes and the waves in her hair apparently came from her grandmother. She had her mother's attention grabbing personality, love of bright vibrant colors and sense of humor, while she got her loyalty and bravery from her father. She always heard her mom's friends telling her that she's a little clone of her mom, and she was ok with it, happy even. She could tell her mom everything, and she did. So she took a deep breath and decided to spill the beans.
"Uh, mom, ya know Aunt Hannah's son?"
Her mom looked up from the spaghetti in the pot
"Matt?"
"Yeah."
"What about him?"
Genevieve felt her cheeks flush
"Weeeeeeeeeelll...."
"Genny."
Genevieve met her mom’s eyes and saw something there, like her mom knew something she didn’t.

The news came out in a blur, like it usually did when she got nervous. Her mother stood across from her, eyes wide and jaw dropped. Genevieve braced herself for the explosion but it never came.
Instead, her mom gave an excited shriek that should have belonged to a fifteen year old girl, ran to her daughter and engulfed her in a hug.
"Oh sweetie that is fantastic."
Her mother pulled away and planted a kiss on her forehead before running to the phone
"Hello Heather? Yeah it's me. It happened!"
Genevieve stood in shock at her mother who was calling all her friends (Genevieve's many unofficial aunts) and told them the news.
"Mom, what is going on? Why are you so happy?"
Her mother stopped her conversation with McKenzie to reply with a smile
"Sweetie, I have been hoping for this since before you were born."
