“Girl with Camera: A Ghost Story“ is the new graphic novel by author and artist Joy Rip. It is the haunting, disturbing story about the last one hundred pictures found on the camera of a missing girl - a girl with great ambitions of becoming a world recognized photographer and photojournalist.
“Girl with Camera” is an experimental ghost story. This ghost story creates a more lasting haunting experience for the reader by using the graphic novel to examine the ghostly fragmentary nature of all stories, all storytelling, and the ends to which we will go with our minds to create a sense of purpose, a sense of destiny and well-being in a hostile, lonely, violent universe. In this graphic novel, the structure and genesis of storytelling is broken down into fragmentary words and pictures in order to examine how our thirst for meaning, for stability, cohesion, consistency and continuity in our lives creates a logic of its very own - a logic supplied by both reader and author - that brings (imaginary or real) order to chaos and gives a sense of permanence to our existence where none may in fact exist.
Serenity Williams is your average 15 year old girl. Her parents disappeared just days after her birth, and she was raised by her grandparents before being taken to the city by her aunt. Five years later she receives a phone call; her grandfather's passed away and left her behind a large inheritance. But in order to receive it, she has to move back to her hometown and move back into her childhood home. After returning it quickly starts becoming clear to her that her parents disappearance was no mere accident, and that her once beloved home is no longer what she thought it was. Chandeliers swing, her room destroyed, and she sees a figure around the house. What secrets are her grandmother hiding? Who's terrorizing her home, a vengeful spirit, or a lonely ghost? And what dark secrets do the marshes of Blackbourne hide?
Ben and Joey are among the chosen. They seek to defeat darkness, protecting the world from its infectious evil. They are chasers, the children of angels and the warriors of light, and they are itching for a fight.
THE WAREHOUSE: Ben and Joey are called to an abandoned warehouse where shades, one of evil's many consorts, are presumed to be reeking havoc. They must find and destroy them, no matter the cost. What they find lurking scares them so badly, they aren't sure if it was actually real.
