I

"Ghant, am I really going to live with you?" I ask in disbelief. I couldn't believe this; one minute, I'm chatting with my best friend Finny, and then the next minute, my uncle, Ghant, tells me that I'm moving to Montana. My chihuahua, Pablo, barks in agreement.
"Hold on." I say to Ghant. Finny looks at me questioningly. "What?" I mumble. "So you're really moving to Montana?" Finny asks. "I hope not." I grunt. Ghant looks over at me. "You know, it's the best for you." He says. I sigh. I know that Ghant is right and I have to leave New York and go to Montana.
"There's nothing to do in Montana." says Finny. He gives me a sad puppy-dog face. "You're going to leave me." he adds.
"It's alright, you know me. I'll find a way to entertain myself." Finny looks at the ground, "Yea."
"Well, you can visit us sometime." says Ghant. Finny's face brightens up. "Really? Oh, thank you so much!" Ghant nods and I look over at Pablo. He's sitting down and wagging his tail back and forth. Finny notices Pablo and picks him up.
"Pablo. Are you sad that you're leaving me soon?" Pablo doesn't say anything. "Finny, stop acting weird." I say. "Kids, I'll be going out to get us a quick snack." says Ghant getting up from his seat. I nod. "Bye, Mr. T!" says Finny giving a quick wave.
"Wait!" I shout.
"What?" asks Ghant, turning back to look at me.
"When will I be leaving?" I ask.
"In ten days. If I were you, I would start packing some things in."
"Fine. I will. Have safe trip." I say as Ghant heads for the door.
Finny is quiet. "I'll really miss you, Kara." he says. I scoot closer to him and put my head on his shoulder. "Ghant said that you can visit me though." I say.
"Yea, but I don't have the funds for the trip to Montana." he says quietly.
"Work harder. You have a job. Get two jobs if you have to." I say. I take my head off of his shoulder.
Finny suddenly stands up straight. "Kara, I will definitely visit you." he says with a serious face on. I giggle. "I'm leaving in about a week, Fin." I say. "Yea, but.." Finny's quiet and I hug him. "You'll always be my best friend." I say.
He's still quiet, which is unusual. Finny usually jokes around a lot and not to mention that he has a big mouth. I sigh. Maybe it's because I'm leaving. "And I'll be waiting for you." I say. He nods, then his face brightens up. "Let's prank your uncle!" he says. "What the...why?" I ask. "Cause it's going to be going to be fun!" shouts Finny. I always pulled pranks on people, but never on Ghant.
I take in a deep breath. "Fine. Let's do it." "Yay!" cries Finny. I smile.

This would be the last time that I would see Finny.

*******************************

The prank didn't go as planned and Ghant got mad at me and Finny. Finny suddenly had to go to a summer camp and didn't see me leave.
"Kara, you're going to love the house." says Ghant. "Uh huh." I say. I look out the car window and watch as three trees pass by. There's no other cars besides Ghant's. Montana really has nothing.
"Why couldn't we stay in New York? You had an apartment there." I say. Ghant sighs. "You know that I feel more comfortable in my Montana house. And besides, that New York apartment was just for the time that I was in New York." I don't say anything. Arguing with Ghant will go no where.
"Hey. We're almost here, kid." He says. I grunt. Ghant takes forever to drive. I look out the window, hoping for a building or a house in sight, but instead I see flat land. I can't wait for Montana.

*****************************

By the time that we reach Silent Lake, Ghant's hometown, it's already getting dark. I look around the neighborhood, but I see nothing but some trees and flat land. I guess we have no neighbors. I guess that's why the town's called 'Silent Lake.'
"C'mon Kara. I'll carry the luggage and you go and look around for a bit." says Ghant picking up my neon-pink suitcase.
I grunt and drag my heavy combat boots up the steps, towards the colonial-looking house. The windows look rusted and there's a black crow perched on one of the steps. "Shoo. Go away." I whisper to it. It's beady black eyes stare at me. "Go away, nasty thing." I say. It's head suddenly snaps up. The crow shrieks and flies away. I cover my ears. A black feather falls to the ground. "Stupid bird." I mutter as I kick the feather to the side. Sighing, I open the doors to the house.
It makes a creaking sound, the sound that you would hear in a horror movie.
Everything looks surprisingly cozy and warm inside. The house is pretty big, and has a chandelier hanging by the entrance door. I take off my heavy boots and step onto the carpet. I look around the living room and since I'm lazy and tired I ask Ghant where my room is. "Go upstairs, turn right and you should be there." shouts Ghant from the driveway. I walk over to the stairs and quickly make my way up. The stairs creak every time I step on it. Remembering what Ghant said, I turn to my right and I'm face to face with a white door labeled, 'Kara's Room' in script writing, probably Ghant wrote it.
