The sun was beating down upon her, making a bead of sweat drip on her brow. She turned up a shaded alleyway, to get away from the heat, but it followed her like a stray mongrel, always at her heels, impossible to get away. She crouched down and wiped her forehead, then pulled a bottle of water from her bag and gulped it down. She then threw the empty bottle on the floor; it rolled and tumbled down the gutter. She got back up, and carried on walking, slowly trudging in her sneakers. As she came out the other end of the alley, and crossed the road, a man in a white vest and purple surf shorts bumped into her, making her fall, hitting her head on the kerb.
‘Oh, are you ok? I’m so sorry!! Let me give you a hand!’ Said the man, pulling her up off the floor, trying not to cause any further damage. As she got up, and steadied herself, she felt a shooting pain on her forehead. She reached up and gently touched the part that hurt. She winced at the pain, and looked at her fingers. They were covered with blood. Then, she suddenly felt dizzy.
‘I’m fine, don’t worry about it, I’ll be ok.’ She replied, not sure whether she would actually be ok.
‘I’ll drive you to the hospital? I can’t let you walk around with a head like that, and this heat isn’t helping.’ He said, putting an arm around her. He took off his white vest, and dabbed at the open cut.
‘I’ll be fine, honest.’ She said, trying to pull away. He grabbed her closer, squeezing her arm, not letting go. She carried on struggling, pushing him away, and trying to rip his arm off her. He still was gripped onto her. She biffed him with her free arm, knocking him out of the way. She tried to walk briskly away but he seized her back. She turned around, saying, ‘Look, I’m…’ and he punched her in the face, her body spun, and collapsed in a heap on the floor. Then man immediately spun his head around, looking in all directions, checking no one saw. Then he lifted up her body and carried her around the corner, over to his van. He balanced her limp body on his shoulder and held onto her back with his arm. With the other arm, he opened the back of the van. He gently placed her body on the floor of the van and covered her with a blanket. The brown and white cocker spaniel that was sat in the back nudged away the blanket and started licking the girls face, lapping at her eye brows and polished them with saliva. The man slammed the van doors shut, and casually walked around to the driver’s seat. He sat down, put his keys in the ignition, turned them, and clicked his seat belt into the plug. He pressed his foot down onto the accelerator and the van roared to life. He drove down the road.
After a few hours he had finally reached an abandoned hut in the center of a wood. He got the girl out of the van, her eyes were flickering. He knew that he had to do this quickly. He hurried over to a dark, oak table. He placed the body on top of it. Then, he looked around the room and saw some old rope in the corner. He grabbed it and tied the girl to the table. There was a stove in the room, it was rusting. The man walked over to it, snatched a box of matches out of his pocket, and struck it. He threw it inside the stove, it just flickered slightly, and then, a small piece of rotting wood set alight. The fire was in a small ball, and was crackling and sparking. The room was already as hot as it was, so the man opened a few windows. As he did so, the girl woke up from conciseness, and let out a high pitched scream. The man spun around and darted over to the table. He firmly put his hand over her mouth, the girl tried to bite, but he was pushing it too hard. She wriggled frantically, trying to get her hands free. The man gagged her with his bloody vest, and went over to the van. He swung open the back doors, grabbed a knife and a container. The container was red, it was filled with gasoline. He kicked the doors shut and hurried back to the girl. She was still trying to get free, but the man just glanced at her, his piercing eyes threatening her. The girl’s eyes bulged as she saw the knife. Her eyes filled with tears and she started crying. The man found her muffled cries calming. He put the container down, and leaned over her body. He held the knife close to her throat and whispered, ‘If you don’t be quite then this knife will soon be touching your skin, if you still fail to shut the hell up, then you’ll feel it inside you. I’m sure that would be painful, so shut up!’ He then stroked her face with his free hand, ‘Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll die of dehydration or blood loss soon enough, that would be more painful than this knife…’ he said, spinning it in his hand. The knife glistened as the sun light hit it. The man knew that the girl would be quite from now on, so he placed the knife and gasoline back into his van. By this time the fire was just a small glow. He thought that if he left the girl, she would suffer more than if he killed her quickly. So, he got into his van, and drove away.
