Lies.
Everyone tells them.
Some lies are big.
Some are small.
Some are good.
Some are murderous.
Sometimes all you can do is lie.
In those moments, truth is like oblivion.
Chapter One.
Many things always happen for one specific reason. We can’t always explain why or how. We can’t stop them and if we try then we fuck everything up. She got in my way. It’s not my fault, it’s hers. At least, that’s the lie I always tell myself.

“Charlie.” Sam whined, drawing out my name as she shook my shoulder. I lazily swatted her hand away.
“Stop.” I mumbled, rolling onto my side. She crossed her arms.
“I read your journal.” She blurted and I opened one eye to look at her.
“Sure you did.” I said, knowing that she knew better. “You know that if you did I’d probably kill you.”
“Like you did to some random person you didn’t even know the name of?” She asked solemnly. My eyes shot open as I sat up.
“You actually read my fucking journal?” I asked in angry disbelief. Can’t let her know it’s true. “I never wanted you to read it because it’s a story I’m making. Jesus fucking Christ. Stay out of my stuff.” I groaned, flopping back down on my bed. She looked at me like she didn’t believe me. I sighed. “Do you really think my life is that interesting?” I asked. When she didn’t answer I started laughing hysterically. “You do? Oh, my God. Have you not actually met me?” I asked between breaths. She sighed and smiled.
“So, none of it’s true? Just all a made-up story? She asked as confirmation after I had finished laughing. I nodded and nudged her shoulder.
“My life never will and cannot be that interesting. Plus that means I’d be apart of a gang and you know that I’d never be apart of some shit like that.” I lied, putting on a smile in hopes of forcing my lie to seem more like a truth. She leant back on her hands and smiled as well.
“Well, when you fully finish it, will you let me read it?” She asked, hopeful. I shrugged.
“If you're alive by the time I finish it.” I said and she cocked an eyebrow up at this. I could practically feel her suspicions growing again. I rolled my eyes and half smiled.
“I’m planning to make it at least half a lifetime long. Plus I take things from my life and put them into the story. Like this, it’s a great idea to be put into the story.” I explained and she nodded. Suddenly her text tone went off and she grabbed her phone from her back pocket and read the text then quickly replying.
“Troye’s here. We’re gonna go out for a while and I’ll probably spend the night at his place.” She said quickly, tucking a chunk of hair behind her ear as she stood and pulled up her jeans.
“Use protection!” I called to her as she walked down the hallway. I heard the front door shut and I sighed, flopping back on my mounds of pillows behind me. Suddenly my phone started vibrating like crazy on my nightstand, signalling I had an incoming call. I sighed and sat up, grabbing my phone and sliding to answer. I held my phone up to my ear.
“We need you over here immediately. There’s a problem.” A low voice said from the other side of the line. I sighed deeply through my nose.
“Alright. I’ll be over soon.” I said, slipping out of bed and walking over to my dresser, sliding the top drawer open while holding my phone between my ear and shoulder.
“How long will it take you because I will take charge if you take to-”
“I will be there soon. I just got out of bed so will you be fucking patient for once.” I cut him off, irritation lacing through my tone. I grabbed a black tank-top before shutting the top drawer and opening the third one, grabbing a pair of jeans.
“Whatever. Just hurry.” He grumbled before hanging up. I sighed, exasperated. I quickly grabbed a bra and a pair of socks before slipping out of my pyjamas and putting on my clothes. After I had put on my socks I quickly slipped on my black converse. I slid my phone in my back pocket and grabbed a hair tie, quickly and messily putting my hair up. I ran into the bathroom to go pee and quickly put on make-up. After I finished my business and washed my hands, I started doing my eyeliner and mascara. Once I was done with that I looked at myself in the mirror, squinted technically since I didn’t have my glasses on, and I stared at my tattoo that went from the top of my shoulder, near where my neck met my shoulder, to just above crease in my arm. I loved the tattoo. I had to get it when I entered into the tribe and the rule was, we had to have it visible in some sort of way so other tribe members could tell us apart from others. Also, our tribe does not mean we’re werewolves. It’s not that fiction bullshit. We’re like a big team of hitmen that gets orders from our boss. Only one tribe member knows the contact info of our boss so they can tell them about who is new, who died, who quit and so we can get our next hit list. So I guess we’re like a mafia or gang. Whatever you want to call us. Anyway, I slid my glasses back on my face and quickly went back to my room and grabbed my lanyard that had all my keys attached to it. I rushed out of the door, locking it behind me, and to my car.

I arrived to our HQ and rung the doorbell. Another member, that I had met only once before, opened the door. He immediately stepped aside and I walked in, first taking off my shoes then heading down the hall, knowing where I was going. I stood in the entrance to the room where we held all of our meetings.
“What did you all fuck up on now?” I asked half-jokingly. Everyone looked toward me. The tallest member, and the biggest pain in my ass also named Garett, stood up.
“Mia was killed by another tribe.” He answered. How wonderful. The only other female in this group is now dead. Fuck.
“Great. Next we should sacrifice you.” I said walking in and taking my usual seat. Garett growled at me. “Save it for the sheep, Wolfie.” I said, raising my hand up to silence him. Again, we are not werewolves. Garett is just a touchy ass man baby who mimics a wolf growl when someone pisses him off which is the reason why I call him Wolfie. Plus it pisses him off and pissing him off is one my favorite hobbies.
“What should we do?” John asked me and I shrugged.
“What can we do? Mia was one of our best members and she’s dead. That means that they’re a more heavily trained tribe, or they only recruit the best people they can find.” I said, thinking out loud at this point.
“We recruit pretty damn good people also.” Jakob spoke up. I glanced at him.
“Yes, but we have Garett in our tribe so that contradicts your statement.” I muttered, already raising my hand in Garett’s direction. “Don’t even.”
“You have to have some idea of what we can do to get back at those fuckers.” Mark demanded and I looked over at him. He was probably about six foot, light hair, muscular, and always looks pissed off. I probably looked very bored, which I was.
“Do we have any idea or proof of who they are?” I asked, leaning my head against my fist. Everyone looked at eachother before answering. I already knew the answer. “Gives us such a great start. How do you even know she’s dead?” I questioned, becoming increasingly irritated that they called me here with no leads.
“We got a picture of her body in the mail a little while ago.” A timid member mentioned. I looked over at him and arched an eyebrow.
“Name, date recruited, who recruited you.” I demanded and he stood up.
“Jake Newman, May tenth, Garett.” He answered. I nodded and looked over to Garett.
“Better not be another fuck up or I’m definitely sacrificing you to the tribe that killed Mia.” I said, looking back over to Jake. “Let me see the picture.” He nodded once and walked over to a dresser we had for storage of shit. He opened the top drawer, pulling out the picture before walking over and promptly handing it to me. As I was analyzing the photo, a carving on her bare chest caught my eye. It wasn’t huge but it wasn’t tiny either. I laid the photo upside down on the coffee table in front of me before calmly standing up and grabbing my chair, throwing it against the wall in anger and complete frustration. I walked over to it and grabbed it, smashing it against the hardwood floor until it was practically in splinters. I turned and glared at everyone.
“Find out which tribe that god damned symbol belongs to and do not dare fucking call me until you have some sort of lead.” They all nodded and I twisted away. “I am going to take a nap. Don’t disturb me unless it’s important.” I said before walking to the stairs. I had ended up claiming a room here at Garett’s for times I needed to get away from Sam or for some reason that involved the tribe.
I opened the dark wood door and walked in, shutting the door and locking it behind me. I unhooked my bra and slid it off, letting it fall to the floor. Next I took off my jeans, leaving them next to my bra. I grabbed my phone and immediately sent Sam a text.
‘Gonna stay at Garett’s for the night. Home was boring.’ Was all I said before pressing send. I almost instantly received an answer.
‘Use protection ;)’ Using my own words against me? That bitch. I laughed softly.
‘Fuck off.’ I sent before turning my phone on silent and plugging it into a charger that Garett gave me. I yawned before climbing under the thick blanket, snuggling into the warmness. Just before I drifted off, I remembered my glasses. I slid them off my face and set them on the nightstand, next to my phone. Then I let myself finally slip into sleep.
