Clarksville Manor
Rose and Carly had been riding down the twisted roads of South Carolina for hours. They had been taking random pictures and videos of themselves out of boredom and Rose was starving, as always. Carly was tired and getting cranky and Rose complaining about being hungry wasn’t making her any less cranky. “Rose, will you please just shut up!” she snapped. “Gees, Carly, chill ax!” Rose said. “Sorry. I’m just so tired. And I have to pee. Jen how much longer do we have?” she asked the driver who was a family friend. Jen took a few seconds to answer. She looked out of the windshield of her Ford Explorer. “It’s just right ahead up on the hill there, girls.” Rose and Carly sighed simultaneously and sunk into the back seats of the Explorer. “Thank God!” Rose exclaimed in relief. The white Explorer screeched as it pulled into the drive of a little old run-down house. “Here it is, Home Sweet Home.” Jen smiled. The girls opened the doors of the car and Rose was the first to get out. “Thanks Jen, we owe you!” Carly said. “You’re welcome girl, and Carly, don’t be talking like that! You don’t owe me anything.” Noticing the house for the first time, Carly joined Rose, staring at it. It had that creepy kind-of feeling that made you shutter. “It’s small.” Rose whined. “Be grateful, Rose at least we have a place to stay.” said Carly. “Yeah, yeah.” Rose mouthed. Carly rolled her eyes. “Just go get us signed in. I’ll get our stuff.” Rose tromped up the stairs of the old house and disappeared through the entrance. She looked around making an unhappy face. “Can you say home improvement?” she said. She walked to the check-in counter. “Hel-lo
? Anybody home
?” she called. No answer. “Well, I guess nobody’s home!” she told herself with a sarcastic tone to her voice. She walked over to a magazine rack and flipped through a magazine uninterestedly. A hand grabbed her shoulder “Are you checking in?” a voice said behind her. “She whirled around dropping the magazine. “Whoa!” she yelped. “Are you?” a little old lady that was leaning forward like the Hunchback questioned. “Am I? “ Rose’s heart was still pounding. “Checking in?” the lady said, her voice becoming slightly louder than it was before. “Oh. Yeah.” Rose replied.
“Rose carries way too much stuff!” Carly mumbled to herself, struggling to get Rose’s luggage out of the trunk of the car. Rose crept up behind her. “Boo!” she screeched. Carly screamed and dropped the suitcase. “Rose!” she screamed “This is your
luggage you dummy!” Rose just shrugged. “Did you get us a room?” Carly questioned trying to pick the suitcase up off of the ground. “Oh. Yeah. We’re room number Twenty Four.” She answered. “Alright get your stuff and let’s go. Bye, Jen” she said. “Bye Jen. “ Rose said after her. “Bye girls, call me if you need me. I’m staying with a friend just down the road.” Jen said. “Will do.” Carly closed the trunk and walked to the house, Rose following. When they got inside Carly stopped causing Rose to bump into her. “Gross!” she said examining the room. They had to walk down a long hallway to get to their room. “Why didn’t she just give us room number One? I mean, it’s not like anyone else is here.” Rose asked. “Well, there are possibilities. I mean we’re
staying here aren’t we?” Rose didn’t answer. Carly sighed and unlocked the door to their room. Rose pushed past her and flipped on the lights. She dropped her luggage on one of the twin beds. “This bed is mine.” She said about the bed closest to the window. “Whatever floats your boat, Rosie, dear.” Carly told her
