Maria's father, Edward, had an announcement. He said,
"Maria, Mark, and Jessie, as you all know your caring mother has passed away. So...I have decided to marry a girl named Elizabeth. She gave me a job and I really like her."
Maria was heartbroken. Her mother had died only a week ago and her father was planning to marry a girl named Elizabeth already? Jessie,even though she was very young,understood and she didn't like it a bit.
"No!"she said.
Dad was amazed that no was Jessie's first word. Then Dad said,
"Come in."
He opened the door and there was the girl that Dad loved,Elizabeth. "Okay kids. Our marriage is next week. "Me and Elizabeth are going out to buy the stuff." So off he went with Elizabeth. Maria, Mark, and Jessie had a meeting. They agreed that the marriage couldn't happen. They packed their toothbrushes, clothes, and Maria packed her mother's last necklace. Then they said goodbye to their house and left. They ran away. Far,far away where their father would never find them. When Dad and Elizabeth came home they were in for a surprise! Maria, Mark, and Jessie were no where to be seen. Meanwhile, the kids walked and walked until their legs hurt. They found an old mansion and started living there. The wedding went wrong as Elizabeth had cheated Edward and she fired him from the job she had given. Elizabeth got him arrested and later she,herself died. Maria was good at sewing so she found a job. Mark fixed up the mansion and everyone was happy. As for Jessie,she grew up to be a doctor and gained lots of money for her siblings. Maria had truly found her home.
