Though I lifted up my hands to her, she never lifted me.
Mavon's hips moved to the rhythm music.
(All this vanity)Down here, love wasn't meant to be(Underneath the sun), it wasn't meant to be for me(All this vanity).
Head bobbing up and down preparing for the heartfelt feeling.
Oh, somethingās missing in me, I felt it deep within me, as lovers left me to bleed alone!!
Mavon shook her head. "No, I like this song." She murmured to herself, her hand reaching out to her radio to change the song.
Circle and circles the earth. Chance and choice break his heart. His innocent arm moves to save me and I am spared.
Mavon sung with the song.
His beautiful arm is bloody and cut off his heart ripped out to show me he loved me. But I wouldn't believe, he did all that he could, I still would believe him!
Mavon's voice broke out into a high voice making her out of breath.
Whoa, I left his arms empty and tied, outstretched for me till he died! No man shows greater love, then when a man lies down his life for his beloved!
Mavon danced around the ball room; her music streaming off the walls back to her.
Here I am alive. And I don't have the right. He gave me the right, costing him his life, new mercy's in the morning!
Mavon leaped in the air.
I believe, what if I believe you now? Oh. Forgive me, believe me, please come back to life. Come back to my life.
Mavon struck the ground with grace as the song ended. She was out of breath, but puffed her cheeks and let out a breath. Little loose hairs fluttered up and out of her face for a moment before falling back down to her face and sticking to her long eyelashes. Mavon placed her hands on her hips, breathing hard. A new song was playing now, though Mavon paid no attention to it. Her skin felt like it was itching to be outside in the heated rays of the sun, feel the cool ocean sprays of water on her face that was carried in by the wind.
She turned on her heal and shut off her radio. The ballroom was now silent besides her breathing. Brushing her hair back away from her face with her fingers she strode out of the room, across the hall, down the flight of spiral stairs till she was at the end of the landing that led into the hall. Mavon walked down the unlit hall to the end where a old oak door was open an inch. Mavon knocked the pressed her hand on the door to push it open. The door opened to a grand room, so much like all the other ones, where a queen sized canopy bed, a role over desk with paper and work books scattered over its flat surface, a glass door leading onto a balcony that was open blowing the curtains back into the room with fresh wind calling that the summer was almost over. Mavon sighed. Her mother wasn't in her room. Grabbing the door knob and pulling it closed behind her, Mavon backed down the hall again.
Going down another flight of spiral stairs Mavon found herself in the living room. It was big but looked so small with the love seats, couches, computer desk, flat screen TV, and papers everywhere. Mavon sighed once again. Her mother was in the computer chair, a binder balancing on one leg and a notebook on the other. Her mother was dressed in jean shorts and a blue tank top, hair long blond curly hair pulled up in a tight pony tail with a few hairs that fell into her face. The window was open letting in air to flip a few papers. When Mavon's mother heard her walking down the stairs, she looked up. A strained smile plastered her motherās face. "Oh...Hello Mavon. I didn't think you would be up so early." Mavon looked at her mother.
"Mom it's noon. You should be in bed. I know you haven't gotten much sleep since that missing girls case." Her mother sighed, closing her eyes.
"I know. But this little girl's parents are worried sick and... Well if I was in their shoes I would wish for all the help in the world." Mavon looked at her mother closely. Her motherās Egyptian traits showed on her skin, the strong build of her hands and body, her flawless face, even in her heart. Mavon also sighed.
"Well Iām going out, and I need the keys." Her mother's hand reached up to rub the back of her neck.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
Mavon stretched her back and arms. "Into town. I want just look around and maybe get something to eat." Was Mavon's reply.
Her mother's eyes searched the constant folds of paper on the floor and on the furniture. "Sorry sweetie, but I don't know where I put them." Mavon pointed at her mother's pocket.
"Dude, they're in your pocket." She stated as her mother fished into her pocket and came up with the keys. "Don't go to fast on my car. You'll kill the engine." Mavon's mother warned, tossing the keys in her direction. Mavon caught them and rolled her eyes. "I know. I know." She said heading for the door. Once Mavon was out of the house she headed straight for the garage. She fumbled for the keys that opened the door that lead into the garage. Once inside, she slipped in the car plunging the key in the ignition, then backed out.
Halfway into town, Mavon couldn't help think of her small town, Marchmet Falls in North Carolina. The town was very small and on the bay of the ocean sea. It was full of stores and was divided into two parts: One for the rich and the other for the poor, the town dividing the two parts. Mavon had rolled down the windows and the wind was blowing in her face, her hair whipping in her face. Mavon tapped her fingers on the steering wheel eyes on the road and mind roaming at thoughts about tomorrow. Today was the end of summer and school started tomorrow. Though she had no friends she couldn't help but feel nervous. She didn't care about what people thought of her, though she wanted to make an impression this year. The trees and the sight of ocean and sand were dropped to show buildings. As Mavon rode into town she had a hard time finding a parking space in the parking lot. Finding one in the back of the lot, she pulled in and parked the car.
Mavon walked down the side walk and peered into shops, scanning the merchandise with her eyes not having the tingling feeling of the urge to shop. She continued down the walk way when she passed one shop. Mavon stopped and blinked then back tracked to stare in the window. The windows were tinted a little so Mavon couldnāt see through the window well. As if on cue her stomach rumbled in hunger. Promising herself she will come back after she ate she walked off to the Starbucks cafĆ© across the street after looking both ways for traffic. Scurrying past a few people on the walk way and coming to the door step of the open doorway of the cafĆ©. Smelling coffee and fresh bread lead Mavon into the open cafe. Taking a seat on the stool at the bar she looked at the menu while waiting for service.
āHey Mavon. What do you want today?ā a voice came behind the other side of Mavonās menu.
Mavon replied, āWeāve been through this, Amelia. Hey is for horses and Iām not a horse.ā Mavon put the menu aside and looked at the girl behind the counter. She was blond and had pretty ice blue eyes. A few hairs escaped the bun on top of her head trailing down her face. The girl gave a weak smile, and in return, Mavon smiled back.
āArenāt you glad youāre a cow?ā Amelia asked, pushing herself upright. Mavon rolled her eyes at the joke they played all the time when Mavon came over, which was every Sunday.
āIf thatās your way of saying that youāre going to get me the usual, then yes Iām a cow and I proud of it.ā Amelia shook her head while writing down the order, a smile plastered on her face in a friendly way.
āSo, one small hot chocolate with one small cup of sugar and real chocolate with milk and foam with the side of a bagel breakfast on the go with another side of small cup of fruit coming up.ā Amelia said before flashing her smile at Mavon and disappearing behind the back door that leads into the kitchen for a few minutes.
Popping back out from behind the door Amelia came back out and strode over to Mavon. "So, what's new?" Mavon looked outside and motioned to the store she was going to go to after she ate.
"Is there a new store in town? I don't recall seeing it here before." As if on cue the door opened and guy came out. He was tall and very dark skin. His hair was short and cropped at the top. He wore a blue shirt and dark pants with work boots and in his arms was a box. Mavon raised her eyebrow and turned onto Amelia. The girls smiled at each other before Amelia spoke. āI have brake in five minutes and then we can check it out together.ā Mavon nodded, still smiling.
Mavon and Amelia werenāt friends, more like associates. They hung out with each other a few times, but meant nothing beyond that. They made sure it was just that and nothing else since Mavon was rich and Amelia was poor. There is no rule saying that you canāt date, marry, or be friends with the people on the other side of you. It just it would ruin Ameliaās reputation as a popular in school. That was Ameliaās 'Talent': having everyone love her just by one smile. Thatās what the whole school was about. You take classes to enhance your 'Talent' so when the āStarsā come to get you, you will be ready for the tasks ahead. Mavon has a similar 'Talent' as Ameliaās that is how they came about, but Mavon doesnāt use hers. So they just hang out here and there a few times.
Mavon was torn out of her thoughts when Amelia set her hot chocolate and food in front of her then moved away to served another costumer. Eating slowly, Mavon thought of the other night when she was sleeping. She had a vague memory of a dream. Not all of it, but just the part of falling and something catching her and the smell of something like vinegar, irking her. She shook her head and realized she was almost done with her food. āAre you ready?ā came Ameliaās voice. Mavon paid
