My heart goes out to those affected by Hurricane Sandy; in Florida, we’ve gotten pretty good at dealing with these giant storms. But places like New York and New Jersey, for instance, are more prepared for snow, ice, extreme cold, and occasional smaller hurricanes. Not for anything like this. They have different infrastructure and more under- ground spaces that can become flooded. So we need to remember the people living there and all along the Eastern coast who were affected by this latest storm. The death toll is heartbreaking, the loss of property devastating. My silly little story is only one way to help, since its inclusion will add to the fund being put together to help all the victims. But as a people, we Americans are awesome at helping our neighbors in times of need, and I know we’ll get through this, too.
