to endure the frigid cold mountain water after the tank had played out.  He repaired the back corner of the roof after a tree branch crushed it.  Every season he repairs and stains the deck and the boat dock along with setting live animal traps around the house to keep out a critter invasion.  Without Milton, my dad would have tried to do these and a list of other things himself with limited success and maximum frustration.  Before he found Milton, Dad called in several local repairmen whose standard response always was, “That’s going to be a big job”.  They also tended to yell or speak very loudly in a slow deliberate voice because being “a foreign guy” Dad probably didn’t understand English very well.

The house is heating up nicely.  The next thing on my agenda is coffee.  I walk out the front door to get the supplies out of my car just in time to see Sierra pulling up to the cottage in her pink Kia.  I turn in her direction as she jumps out of her car and runs over to hug me.  “Sis, I am so glad to see you!”  We hug in silence, enjoying our closeness.  Before college Sierra and I were rarely apart for more than a day or two.  “I can’t believe how long it takes to get here.  My GPS didn’t even recognize that last turn.  We do have WIFI up here, right?”  We continued to hug simply because it felt good and for the security of knowing that whatever lay ahead, we could face it together instead of alone.

Sierra is looking over my shoulder toward the other cottages.  “Who’s that”, she says pointing to someone walking in our direction from one of the other cottages.  I turn to see a tall slim pretty girl with long blonde hair.  As she reaches us, she looks at me and smiles.  “Hello, Suzy”.  “Oh, my God” I scream to myself, my heart pounding. “Hannah?”
